Realistic Gear
Oct 4 2008, 3:39 PM EDT
Some of the people who posted apparently only shop via an online encyclopedia of guns and ammo. Carrying anything more than a main weapon and a backup is ridiculous because of the weight that is involved. A single bullet doesn't weigh much but add up rounds of ammo in the amounts posted above, plus the weight of the weapons themselves, plus the actual weight of the survival items and you wouldn't be able to out walk a "Z" horde let alone run. Think mobile to stay alive. A good knife, some environmentally appropriate clothing, something to start a fire with, a small axe and some food is about all you can realistically expect to get quickly. Guns and ammo, unless you already have them, aren't going to be overly commom, especially in Canada.

I agree completely with you Archammer.one person (left unnamed) wanted to carry 8 fire arms, with ammo, 30 explosive devices and full body chain mail. assuming they could carry all of this they would be so slow that a legless zombie could outrun them. when planing your gear you need to consider weight. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. and now that i think about it... my glock 17 would replace the winchester 1300, and then my main arm would be the browning .22, ak, sks, or the winchester... more likely than not a rifle over the shotty becuz of ammo weight and size.

I have always planned my gear on the Escape and Evade modeling. Prefer to pack lighter with a multitude of needed materials than heavier loadouts of *ammo* or *'splosives*.Rather than a huge supply of water, I prefer several lightweight water filters. Instead of a sleeping bag, a body bag keeps rain off, some warm in, and unwanted critters away. You won't be undressing unless soaked/wet/freezing... TP is nice, but it is a filler, not a specific device or thing you want to have taking up space. Food stuffs are what you require to keep energy and thinking processes up and sharp. Knife, cord or rope, and cup. Fire starter and dry tinder. Clean socks. All things to be carried IN pack. Outside? Whatever you wish to weight self down with. Map, compass, route codes, passwords with friendlies. Ammo and magazines are a prime consideration for your ONE packed long gun. (Go ahead, tell and show me how EASY it is to carry more than one *ready* long gun when you've never trained for that evolution, nor practiced same) Your sidearm worn on outside, and able to be drawn (does not one fuckin' bit of good buried in your gear..), ammunition, extra magazines for same. Traveling light-er will save your life, should you need to abandon that gear. Being dependent on that camp_kitchen and ass washing service you thought was necessary will not only have your brains eaten, boots gone over wire to AJR, but may damn well get me killed while I try to save your overburdened ass.. Nahhh.. I'll keep gimping as quickly as I can while Unkle Zed and Undead Again Band train you to be the flute player.. Light=Alive.... *EOM* 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

My REALISTIC selection of gear I have would be:Weapons My Glock 9 (I own one and have a gun licences) 5X Mags with 5 rounds each. So in total 25 rounds. (which is plenty enough atleast for a while, Headshots or a piece of cake) Spring assited gerber 6" blade Clothing Flak jacket My old football leg pads with woodland camo pants At least 5 pairs of socks. And A jacket, hoody, long sleeve and T-shirt and a Raincoat Maps Of local city and area. Camping Supplies Torch lighter and waterproof matches. And a flint stick when the rest fail. And then the rest would be WATER and a few canned foods This is a small amount i know I can carry. ALL OF THIS WILL BE IN MY ARMY SURPLUSE BAG THAT CAN HOLD IT. And this is BEFORE I get wheels, Then when I get a vehicle I will load up. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Holy thats sexy man. Are you on a tour now? Cause i doubt that hummer would be readily avalible when Z day comes.I'm civilian now. I got out Veterans Day last year (funny, No?). Yeah, that's all my personal gear. I'm still adding to it & do intend to carry it all if a ZedPoc happens. The fr(A)nken-(K)ay & the ParaOrd P14 are my primary & secondary. The Glock is stricktly for back up. I will be wearing the body armor due to people who I don't know having guns & trying to kill me. Yup, that's a pair of Nunchaku in the photo. It's the weapon I have the most experience with out of all the items you see there. And yes... that's a Doberman Beanie Baby. A close lady friend gave that to me a decade ago & I still have it. it's wearing "Sgt's stripes" LOL! Do you find this valuable? |

I went on your profile after i made the comment so i kinda knew all that:P But I love left 4 dead too. And my friend and I are shaking liek crazy after each mission. Its intense. You're definatly prepared for Z day. I am just old enough to get my gun license Im in canada, It is only for rifles though, Still good for sure. I'm not the gun expert though my friend is. He also has many man machetes. I am the expert at surviving the outdoors:P You have good plans too. mine are similar but I will shack up in an arena all it's windows are to high for zombies to get to. And all the doors are metal and dont have handles on the outside. And has easy accese to the roof and is close to a grocery store. I just joined this site esterday but am real happy i did. 'Cause I'm a mom, I'd be adding diapers to my list of gear, probably a dozen or two cloth ones and some cloth rags for wipes. Washing them out shouldn't be too much of a problem... No formula and bottles, women are blessed with something better. Food for babies can be chewed for them, so no need for baby food. Kids that carry their own BOBs. The only thing I wonder is if I should outfit them with some sort of weapon, too. I've got an overenthusiastic six-year old who would love a weapon, but might cut his own hand off. Hmmm Just some food for thought for the bunch of bachelors running rampant around here. ;-) Do you find this valuable? |

Washing them out shouldn't be too much of a problem...I was thinking about random stuff to add to my BOB that, though it wouldn't be of use to me (Tomato Soup, Tampons, Baby Diapers, Hand Lotion, Milk, etc...), it might help to have that stuff ready for trade. Though it's nice being a Bachelor & only THINKING I might need something... X-D Do you find this valuable? |

Old wash cloths or cloth diapers work just as well. And if you want to know, LOL, they have something for women called Glad Rags and Keepers. PS: I edited that post, so formula milk wouldn't be necessary either, hopefully. Do you find this valuable? |
