Situation: Discuss
Oct 6 2008, 5:23 PM EDT You've been caught in the middle of an outbreak in a non-descript city (population 280,000). The 'zombies' are essentially of the rage type, displaying symptoms of dementia, extreme aggression, disregard for personal injury and danger, but otherwise do not appear immune to injury. These zombies are not feeders, they simply kill and move on. From what you have seen thus far, they appear to work together and travel in loose packs. The outbreak began between 16 and 20 hours ago, and you estimate that 94/100 of the remaining population is infected. You were chased into a mid-town office building, where you have been barricaded in a broom closet for the last four hours. You have no contact with the outside world, the city is in a blackout, and you estimate that the time is late evening. What are your plans for survival? A few notes: This city boasts any regular feature of urban life, hospitals, a university. You can assume that your broom closet contains anything that a broom closet would contain. You were caught unawares, and though you may know generally the way about town, you're not expressly familiar with the area. You are armed with a 9mm you picked up off a dead security guard, and you currently have 9 rounds remaining. assume you will have little access to other firearms and/or ammunition. Do you find this valuable? |

Oct 6 2008, 8:07 PM EDT 1. Get out of the closet. I’ll wait until I’m sure the skin jobs are NOT around the door. Remember, I got only a few rounds left, so I’m gonna try to avoid using them at all. 2. Move as quietly as possible, and try to see if I can find any other survivors. I’m focusing on getting out of Dodge myself, but any other survivors I find ENR I will take with me. Again, contact with enemy patrols in this situation is to be avoided if at all possible. 3. A: If one of my group has a conviction for grand theft auto, try and steal a bus- ANY bus, but the bigger, the better. Get onto the freeway and charge like Hell; Right now, we got 2 speeds: Faster and Dead, cause if we stop, we’re dead. B: If I can’t get the bus, simply keep them moving, QUIETLY, out of town. Try and set fire to an office building on the way out. The heat, hopefully, will either attract the skin jobs to the building, distracting them for a while, or will drive them away because- Well, it’s HOT. 4. Get to another town. Scout ahead, and see if it’s safe. If it is, we approach the local authorities and explain what happened, and- Whatever happens, you know what that’s really not my fucking problem. Not anymore, at least. (I did what I could, that’s it.) 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Move quickly, quitely, and stick to the shadows. Picking a fight when your out numbered and not yet detected is just stupid. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Oct 6 2008, 11:27 PM EDT "You should post this as a prompt under zombie fiction and let people contribute their own story to your page"I thought it might belong there, but my question was intended to be answered from a technical rather than narrative perspective. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Situation: Discuss
Oct 7 2008, 12:00 AM EDT Listen for noise outside the closet, improvise spears from broom handles and pack from trash bags, load some liquid soap and disinfectant into pack. Sneak out, bring any survivors I found with me. Wouldn't bother trying to hotwire a vehicle, too slow and likely to fail with modern rigs. Look for rig with keys, preferably something big enough to push cars, pickup, vans, etc out of the way. Reason for the soap and disinfectant, dump soap on surface between you and attackers, they will slip and slow them down, disinfectant will irritate eyes, nose, mouth, possible distraction. Head for major highway out of town, be alert for other possible ways out of town, also, look for weapons and other supplies. Do you find this valuable? |

Oct 7 2008, 12:14 AM EDT first off, calm down, drink some water ( most janitor closets have large sink area used to fill up mop buckets). double check your pistol and recount your rounds. make sure you have one chambered and it is in a ready configuration of your liking. 2nd, most janitor closets have an open vent shaft because of chemical storage, open it and see if you can fit if you cant no biggy. also most office buildings use false roofs to house electrical systems and ductwork try to work your way to another room undetected! from there you can make your grand escape. 3rd. look for the 1st aid kit, trust me you'll need it. some other food for thought. try to revisit the security guard, he may have a radio you can use, and keys to the kingdom, also security offices usually contain blueprints of the building they are in marked with the locations of there fire extinguishers, 1st aid kits and AED's along with a camera system and alarm system. this should get you on the right path. RE: Situation: Discuss
Oct 7 2008, 10:29 AM EDT bring out the 9mm and lock the doors of the office for now, secure rooms one by one, make sure that the building is secure before proceeding any further. head to the top floor(or if the building is one story heading into the attic and breaking the tiles will be sufficient), scout the area, number of infected, possible escape routes, blocked escape routes. If were in an office building i assume theres employers cars in the parking lot somewhere. Keys must be left somewhere in the office. Scour for them and locate the car. Drive to a more secure location - if none are available, escape from the city would be preferable to a military base. Do you find this valuable? |
