Bug out bags
Oct 9 2008, 10:53 AM EDT I have a few things, and i'm still working on it, but tell me what you think so far 1) Matches and firestarters 2) Katana 3) Multi-tool 4) Zombie Survival Guide* 6) Leather gloves 7) 25 feet of cord 8) Ka-Te Philipino fighting sticks 9) 3 flashlights (one mag lite, two small in case the mag breaks) 10) Sleeping bag 11) small homemade water purification set 12) Duct tape 13) Home-assembled Med Kit ** 14) 6-inch hunting knife 15) sharpener for hunting knife 16) "survivor spirit", combined with about five years of wilderness survival training So, post a reply with any suggestions. *I know that there is some controversy on the site as to the accuracy of the guide, but who knows? **Med Kit has small through large bandages, about 10' of gauze tape, tweezers, two wet-hardening fiberglass splints and some antiseptic. 8 out of 9 found this valuable. Do you? |

Oct 9 2008, 12:42 PM EDT Dump the katana (not going there I promised my fellow mods I’d play nice), Zombie Survival Guide (unless you plan on using it to light fires, which I wouldn’t do), two of the flashlights (one is enough), and the hunting knife (unless you plan to use it on yourself once you’re bitten); Add a 4-6” FOLDING knife (NEVER bring a knife to a gun fight), and double, triple, or even quadruple the cord (assuming it’s 550). Otherwise, SNO.;) Do you find this valuable? |

Oct 9 2008, 1:46 PM EDT Body sanitizing wipes Cooking fuel Mess kit Magnesium fire starter Survival blanket Potassium iodide Sun block Signal mirror Road flares Shooting flares Smoke signals Survival whistle Clotting agents foot powder medical kit Compass Universal gun cleaning kit Knife Knife sharpener Gerber multi tool Pocket hand saw 23.00 Tooth brush Tooth paste Toilet paper Glasses Contacts Cleaning solution and case LED flash light Batteries Camelpak MRE’s taken out of their package and repackaged for space saving Water purifiers Trash bags Zip lock bags Duct tape Asherman chest seal It seems like a lot but it's not, i fit it in my hiking backpack. Obviously my handgun i carry on me at all times but i would also like to take my rifle with me if i have time. This bag isnt about surviving for 3 - 5 days its about giving you time to gather and hunt your own food because if you dont have the means you will die once this pack is used up. RE: Bug out bags
Oct 9 2008, 8:23 PM EDT well since i'm new i think it is best to defend my over enthusiastic nature, so here goes. My bug out bag is designed to get out of the situation but if my BOL doesnt play out then i dont have to stress about survival because i have all i need. I got contacts in there because i hate glasses they have NO Peripheral vision, fog up, slide off, break, you name it; but they are a great back up to my contacts. and obviously necessay if the world is screwed (LASIK here i come). i cant believe i have to defend trash bags but i will, here are a few uses; water proofing, quick rain shelter, collecting water, concealing human scent, and zombie disposal. what if i need a shelter from the hordes outside for the evening one where i can lay low but there is a zed inside who i shoot in the head. Now how do i get rid of his body? I dont carry my CBR suit with me since it is heavy and takes up room, so i wrap my limbs in trash bags to protect from the infected blood and go to work disposing of the body so i dont die from disease when the body decays. ziplocks, well obviously just water proofing for ammunition or whatever else in my pack i dont nead readily available. now saying an assault rifle shouldnt be in the mix is nuts, although kalashnikov's are trash i think the rifle of your choice should be as essential as your food. just like the old saying goes; give a man food he eats for a day give a man an assault rifle and he rules the zombie world with an iron fist, full of bullets. Oct 9 2008, 8:30 PM EDT Amen. but i think maybe a single shot semi auto would be better than an assault rifle Do you find this valuable? |

Oct 9 2008, 9:19 PM EDT IF, and i stress if i can get my hands on a full auto assault rifle i will because it can be switched between full auto and semi. I dont mind semi autos because i cant shoot accurately full auto but when i'm on full burst it is for raiders not zombies. the point is my gun can be as fast or as slow as my trigger finger makes it out to be.
