Drivers?
Oct 13 2008, 1:37 AM EDT
I'll settle with dropping the entertainer idea as it will happen on its own..But, we need drivers...APC drivers, Truck drivers, whatever; we still need them...I'df like for it to be placed near the pilots section; I can't fly and I won't claim that I can either, but I can sure drive, and so can a lot of other ZSDW members....We need them dedicated though so when the time comes for extraction we're not left in the cold since they're all busy making Cocoa Wheats or drawing doodles on paper that resemble combat tactics...Thoughts? Comments pertaining to the subject? Wanna tell me to go back to playing 007: NightFire? Do you find this valuable? |

AG, "Good Thinking". Scrounging the bones of Pre-Zed world will be interesting work. Thinking that damn near any- and everyone that leaves fenced/secure areas will be trained to "rifleman", not everyone will be able to handle a vehicle larger than your average SUV. Air brakes, long trailers, driving in and around tight places, and at speeds past walking quickly require a good_steady_hand at wheel. In zombie movies, I see lots of crashes and crackups. Thinking that those overladen sleds are being handled by folks that did not pass the *FAIL* test in "bigger, taller, weightier" vehicles. Training freight drivers, or finding them in the pool of Survivors will be one such paperwork thing that will be needed. Damn good subject, well worth considering in a noted thread. *EOM* Do you find this valuable? |

"…"decent" with a speed boat, jet ski…"I got something i have to say something at this point… “Decent” as in can go out on a weekend and play around in the water is NOT sufficient for survival. ¿How many of you weekend rec boaters know what a Plug And Patch kit is? When (not if) you strike a submerged object (or it strikes YOU), ¿do you know what to do? (Here’s a though, you AREN’T gonna be able to abandon ship until it literally sinks out from under you). If you want to be considered a coxswain (that’s the technical term for a small boat driver) or helmsman (ship driver), you need to be better than “decent.” That’s the reason I avoided the temptation to add Coxswain/Helmsman category. Sorry Dave, but in my defense, you opened the door to that rant… Do you find this valuable? |

"I got something i have to say something at this point…Please don't ever use the word coxswain during a serious moment, I might lose it... : D I'd have to agree.....Not only the maitenance part, but have you ever been shot at while on a jet-ski or a small boat? These are possibibilities that should be considered...For reals. Do you find this valuable? |

Andy: I am sorry most of us aren't Coast Guard or Navy!! But I am sure that there aren't any one who is a qualified under that ideology. No I haven't been shot at in a small boat but I have gone threw Combat Raft Training. Also beach landing, and Naval deployment training. Do you find this valuable? |

"I have gone threw Combat Raft Training. Also beach landing, and Naval deployment training. "Oh well, ¿why didn’t you say that to begin with? (People, that means he likely DOES know what a plugging and patching kit is- If a SMALL one, he still knows what a plug is, at least.) Do you find this valuable? |

Well, as I've already stated before I was a Stryker driver in Iraq. Most people try to discount the importance of a skilled driver, but let assure you it is a critical element. Suppose your rifleman doesn't properly maintain his weapon. If it goes down, he'll at least have his sidearm, or fellow survivors there to back up. However if the vehicle goes down, it can be catastrophic. It may be your only vehicle, or you may be able to double up survivors in a different vehicle at the cost of lost equipment. During the mission, the driver must constantly be aware of his surrounding environment. Passengers have the luxury of catching some Zs, but not the driver, which is why whenever there is down time other people may be able to relax with some music or type of game, but it will be the drivers responsibility to constantly be sleeping, even when he isn't tired. Sh*t can hit the fan at any moment, and the driver needs to be fully rested in order to have proper reaction time and critical thinking skills. Other people would only have to be awake for an hour or so in order to load the vehicles and then extract, then they can go back to sleep. Additionally whenever members dismount it is the driver's responsibility to help with parameter security. There are certain combat vehicle formations which I won't really get into here, but in case of Z day I would gladly divulge my knowledge of mobile tactics. After the mission ( You must do AFTER each mission, NOT before ) you must thoroughly check your vehicle to make sure nothing was damaged. This can take from 30 minutes to an hour, the point being it's more time eaten up. Furthermore drivers should be rotated weekly or bi weekly as the driver doesn't get much exercise and could quickly lose shape. Naturally you would everybody in fighting shape for Z day Well take it easy everybody. I'm out of characters now Do you find this valuable? |
