Homemade weapons
Dec 5 2008, 9:01 PM EST
This, is a little safer then the homemade shrapnel grenade post I tried to make.... Homemade weapons seem like they can be handy in a pinch. Although, when I look at some of the homemade firearms, they seem a little tricky to pull together..... Why don't you post some schematics or concepts behind some weapons. I think that a device that fired CD's, it could do some serious damage. I don't see how it would work, mechanical know how has never been my forte. It just seems as though you sharpened some CDs and loaded them into some kind of weapon that fired them using like a throwing arm or something and aim it at a zombie's head, it could probably do something if it was going fast enough. Comments? Suggestions? Ideas? Witty remarks? Wrong answers?

Personally i'd stick with simple proven set ups. Guns, blades, blunt weapons, and go from there. Bows and slingshots can work well in some situations, zip guns are easy to make and can work too.mankind has been making weapons for almost as long as we've existed, the weapons that were effective became popular, the ones that weren't so effective (for whatever reason) fell into obscurity Educatio est omnium efficacissima forma superstes. Check this page for a few planshttp://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/page/DIY+and+Self+Help+Attachements/file CD wouldn't have the mass to do more than scratch the skin, unless launched at an unreasonable velocity. Do you find this valuable? |

A point i forgot to touch on is that CD's shatter at a certain velocity, basically what happens is they start warping and shatter.

Thanks for reminding me... I forgot all about the fact that CD's shatter at a certain speed. Like I said, technical know-how isn't my forte. Well, you have to admit, you should know how to make a few weapons. A handmade bow can be useful in the right hands and can be useful in a pinch. As for the CD thing, now that I look back, it doesn't look like a good idea. Well, back to the drawing board.

i made a homade shotgun, and it works pretty well, its not really that hard, if you have the tools, and the will, you can do anything.except beheading a zombie with a cd, i dont think that would work at all. Do you find this valuable? |

"-and my brand new Thor class plasma cannon (i dont make s@#t im just good with electronics)"I've made a "Raygun" out of "recycled" microwave oven parts. It's fun to make a tin can at the bottom of a heap of paper spark. . . If anybody wants the intructions, PM me. 3 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

ya know for ease of manufacture an Open-Bolt fixed pin firing smg in anything from .22 LR to .357 would be just dandy, and select fire isnt that much of a leap eigther. If oyu have the facilities though machine a closed bolt firing. much safer and more reliable as there's waaaaaay less chance of fouling if the breech is closed.

I have seen nothing on the nailgun. It may be very useful and can very easily penatrate a skull.

The sten submachinegun, built by england during world war two, could be manufactured by french and polish resistance with the simpliest machining toos. The magazines could akso be easily constricted. The magazines were positioned horizintally on top of the gun so that there was no need for a complicated bolt, gravity pulled rounds into the chamber when the old casing fell out of it. Hypothetically, my uncle could make a working sten SMG and 20-round magazines in .22, 9mm(How they were originally manufactured),.32 ACP, .45 ACP, or even, with high qualty materials, .327 magnum, .44 Magnum, Or even .50 AE.

A slingshot that fires penny bombs , although it's not a effective weapon it would provide a good distraction

This thread is ANCIENT.But, anyway, I don't really see the point of most homemade weapons. The time and money spent making them could be better spent buying a gun/melee weapon pre-SHTF. Do you find this valuable? |
