"is the machete or the katana.i love my machete i used to go out into the woods and just fool around and i've made it extremly sharp"I'm right there with ya, I love the machete. Tried and proven at holding back the forces of darkness by Haitians and Jamaicans for years now! Call me crazy, but I'm also fond of http://www.coldsteel.com/gunstockwarclub.html It's just sick! Why would anyone want to get that close to a zombie?

I don't think the point is that anyone "wants" to get that close. It's more the case that even well-maintained firearms DO occasionally jam, ammo could be in short supply, etc. ... all sorts of reasons why your trusty boomstick, rifle or pistol isn't going to work on some occasion. Sooooo ... a melee weapon of some kind should be a part of your kit.

"I don't think the point is that anyone "wants" to get that close. Sooooo ... a melee weapon of some kind should be a part of your kit."I didn't mention any type of firearm, what I meant was that all of the weapons mentioned required being within a foot or so of the zombies outstretched hands to deliver a killing blow. Consider pole arms, even slingshots. Slingshot like David used against Goliath, not these rubber band things. Do you find this valuable? |

i just bought a "deluxe" woodman's pal, the one with the D hand guard. for the moment its a good tool for yard work and maintaining the property. First thing i hear sounds like the s***s hitting the fan for real I'm firing up the welder and putting some spikes on the hand guard, putting a helluva edge on it and making it my melee of choice

Welcome to the site, Ratchet. This thread is really old. We have newer machete threads. Also, have you welded before? If not, I'd suggest researching it before the SHTF. Do you find this valuable? |

You can go with this, you can go with that...I was wondering, why do people frown on reanimating old topics? Do people also really frown on starting a topic that's already been made before? How would a new person participate in a particular sort of discussion with these limitations in place or are both the limitations really even there? Sounds interesting Ratchet, but one or two spikes would probably give you the most concentration of stabbing potential. One angled outward for punching and one angled downward for the classic armor piercing stab. I don't know if either would be good for going through the skull and not glance off though... But it sounds neat. I like axes so I'll have to look up this Woodman's pal, sounds strange to me =^_^= Do you find this valuable? |

Normally, we dislike necroposting for two reasons.#1: Normally, the conversation is already over, and not much can be added to it. I.E. someone says something that doesn't really contribute. However, this doesn't seem to be the case here. Also, it is possible that the contributors on the thread aren't around anymore. I believe, on this thread, Byates is the only one that still contributes a lot. #2: We have a newer, more-read thread that talks about the same topic. And, as I've said, we have more recent machete threads. Do you find this valuable? |

i have welded before and my grandfather has the certifications to do any kind of welding there is except underwater. also i looked over the dates for this thread, didn't even realize it was old ill look for a newer one. P.S. that's what i had in mind Donovan, like a trench spike on the bottom and maybe one pointing forward, wasn't thinking too hard about it yet Do you find this valuable? |
