Gas Mileage

what is considered low, medium, and high? I don't think that the hummer deserves a medium rating if it's being compared to regular cars and trucks that most people have access to. That's just and example and I'm not trying to rip on the hummer. Do you find this valuable?

I've driven a few rigs where 5mpg was tops, had a chance at one where careful driving and an outstanding tuneup might get you 2mpg. That is what I consider low. High 30mpg and up?
Medium between 10 and 30?

I am just talking about road vehicle here.

alright i was confused because i have never driven a big rig or anything like that. I was comparing gas mileage to a regular consumer car and it didn't make sense. Do you find this valuable?

For trucks and SUVs, I'd say that below 15 is low, 15-25 is medium, and above 25 is high. For cars, less than 20 would be low, 20-35 would be medium, and above 35 would be high. Do you find this valuable?

I would say you are on except for the truck suv. most actual full sized 4x4 pickups and suv's ( not those little tonkatoy crossovers) will do 20 mpg at very best A few rare exceptions may do 20-22 tops, usually if they are diesels with manual transmissions. A lot of the older 4x4 trucks with gas/auto setups are looking at around 9-12 at best.
Alot also depends on how you drive, I can usually get beter than epa estimates out of a vehicle, but my wife and son usually do worse, and my daughter is good at squeezing every last mile out IF she is driving a manual trans.

Didn't the HEMMTT get 1 mpg or was that just a myth? If so, I'd rank that under low :) Do you find this valuable?

I live in suburban New Jersey, so those compacts and crossover SUVs are what passes for "trucks" around here. Perhaps I should've clarified it a bit.

Taking those smaller vehicles out of the equation, and counting only large, body-on-frame trucks and SUVs, I would say that 19 mpg is high. These estimates are based on my brother's Explorer. He's told me that the fuel economy is pretty low (compared to the Mini Cooper S and the Ford Escape that he used to drive) -- in the mid-high teens, maybe the low 20s if he's doing a lot of highway driving and is really lucky. Keeping in mind that this is Ford's smallest "real" SUV, I used that as the "high" end of my estimate, and used stuff like the Hummer H2 and the Ford Excursion as the "low" end.
