Long Decay
Jan 23 2009, 4:10 PM EST
I have stated this in another thread, and would like to finish my research on it before I put up a page, but...Based on my understanding of Rigor Mortis, the ATP needed in order for the muscles to function would be a liquid. With this said, who knows what circulatory or other liquid systems in the body are still functioning in a Zed in order for them to actually move, let alone bite. As long as fluids stay active, chances are the body will not deteriorate. It is part of the microorganisms that live off of us eating our inactive bodies that causes us to rot away, but only once our fluids stop flowing. With fluids flowing, in order for the body to move (even at a reduced rate or lowered motor skills) the decomposition of a zombie could be well over 25 years or more, instead of the 3-5 year theory. Could even possibly be indeffinite as the microorganisms could leave the body once infected, or just never penetrate as long as they are active. Even look at frozen climates, the microorganisms could not live, so the bodies of 10000 year old cave men have barely decomposed at all... Do you find this valuable?

The body has active defenses fighting off infections and decay. If the cells are no longer reproducing, I think they would have decayed to the bones in 7 years. Depending on climate of course.

And that's assuming they are dead zombies. If they are rage zombies, they may have a fully funtioning human body(except for the brain of course). Which would potentially allow them to live as long as we can.

sooner or later a rage zombie would die of hunger. I don't think they could go for months without eating. you said it yourself human body, no brain. If they were eating flesh, they'd live. When it comes to hordes though, there are bound to be a few who don't get much to eat.

"sooner or later a rage zombie would die of hunger. I don't think they could go for months without eating. you said it yourself human body, no brain. If they were eating flesh, they'd live. When it comes to hordes though, there are bound to be a few who don't get much to eat."I'm sure....but we don't know how a rage zombie would react after it started starving. In 28 weeks later, they just starved. In the real world, especially if they are instinct driven, they may resort to eating plants. Or they may even turn to cannibalism, eating the weakest of their kind. Do you find this valuable? |

"Or they may even turn to cannibalism, eating the weakest of their kind."I like them odds. We wait it out while they eat each other. Do you find this valuable? |

"The body has active defenses fighting off infections and decay. If the cells are no longer reproducing, I think they would have decayed to the bones in 7 years. Depending on climate of course."I agree, but my theory invovles a viral cell production of some sort. Basically, in order for the body to function, the virus takes on every aspect of its host. From fluid to cell production, otherwise the body would not be active at all... (This isn't revovoling around a rage zombie, just the typical, not sure about them) Do you find this valuable? |
