communication

personally i believe (at the begining) setting up a LAN would be easier and more effective than attempting to setup a 'ghost' of the internet. A Lan is not only cheaper to aquire equipment for but requires less power and technology than a internet(ghost) and still allows information transferance and communication.

"thats not a LAN, if you know what that is then you shouldnt even be talking about lan"LAN = local area network and has almost exclusively means (and has meant) linking computers wireless networks simply use radio waves which is 100+ year old tech KK was merely offering a practical radio net solution cell phones, internet and computer nets will go down without power (steady commercial, generator or battery) Do you find this valuable? |

if you are talking about wireless LAN it dosen't use radio waves, it has its own frequency just for the record, cell phones will be completely worthless unless you are powering the towers 0 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

what do you think radio waves are? Frequencies on the EM spectrum

ehh depends, but they aren't very strong anyway, you would need some kind of amplifier to make a difference

"you would need some kind of amplifier to make a difference"hmmm amplifing it is easy... but it´s isn´t needed in my particular understanding and knowledge - you could use better antennas, which would be enough to dramatically increase the range (e.g. inverted satellite dish with custom head - I can add some photos, the dish sets up a round signal, also a can could be used - but it´s a circle signal it´s kind of straight... means you can go really fast, my record ist 2.2 km in my city but u will need direct sight etc...!) setting up a wlan is good idea... I will add some ideas here: http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/page/Wireless+Network Do you find this valuable? |

WLAN = Wireless Local area network. For this all you really need is laptop or pc on both ends of course and this: http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/15/how-to-build-a-wifi-biquad-dish-antenna/ I'm sure you can rig it to connect to another pc. If that guy is able to get wifi points from 8 miles away (ontop of a hill) just using a battery off of his laptop then electricity will not be a problem when linking two computers together. " If that guy is able to get wifi points from 8 miles away (ontop of a hill) just using a battery off of his laptop then electricity will not be a problem when linking two computers together."I highly doubt that he did that with no extra power, no laptop battery is going to be able to get a 8 mile range even on a hill, he had power running to the dish EDIT: i just realized that it is also directional and not pointed in all directions, making it easier and more personalized for the situation. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. KAN: What we used to use between intertwined spun bridge material, usually made of native materials. Took two such KAN to establish commo.Heads of household usually bitched when KAN was not properly cleansed prior to puncturing communications port for spun bridge material connections. Several KAN on spun bridge were usually poorly abled, use was often measured in scant meters. Advantages were that few high tech materials were used. Disadvantages were that HoH would put whoopass on those engineers who stole his "Koffee" KAN in trying "bigger is better", attempting to open up native material bandwidth. This idea may still have merit in a post Human and -power world. SnC Do you find this valuable? |

What proof? Tie a string between two cans and talk into them.
