why are we fascinated
Feb 27 2009, 12:44 AM EST
for me, it has got to be the fact that zombies trancend the natural and spritual boundries upon human kind. This would force people to rethink what they belive in order to understand. And understanding a zombie could be the way to survive an attack.

We humans think of death is game over no movement, no life, nothing and a zombie blows all of that to pieces. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"You have a point. We humans think of death is game over no movement, no life, nothing and a zombie blows all of that to pieces."Quite a few humans believe in life after death actually. Namely Christians, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Bhuddists, Hindu and many agnostics and atheists. But that aside, I can't speak for everyone here, but I'm not 'fascinated' by zombies. I'm not sure how many other people honestly believe that a zombie outbreak is a possibility, but I am relatively sure that it is a real possibility, and I am on this site, and other sites, for the sole reason that it might keep me, and others, alive. Organize Before They Rise, and all that. Do you find this valuable? |

"You have a point. We humans think of death is game over no movement, no life, nothing and a zombie blows all of that to pieces."I don't think so, unless your talking purely physically. Most people believe in some sort of afterlife, And many of us don't believe in a zombie that trancends natural boundaries. The thought of anything that does is rather nonsensical in my opinion. As for where the fascination originates...I don't know. I think there are different reasons for all of us. Do you find this valuable? |

For me, its the escape. It a way to detach from society by creating a fake world where my primary stressors (work, banks, government, women) have been turned into zombies and are no longer something that I must maintain emotionally connected. Its a way to relinquish all my responsibility and return to a primal, basic living where food, water and shelter are my only concerns and getting those things only requires my own effort.I don't like the idea of it actually happening, nor do I think it will.... but I think it'd be nice in a lot of ways. It's an escapism for me too. It would be awesome in many ways to actually live in a zombie filled world but it sucks in many ways too. I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life living in fear... Worrying whether I could live through the next day... But... the current world isn't all that great either. Instead, you get to worry about your next payday. =/

All sorts of tribes in various places believed in this sort of thing, and some people think it is possinle for human corpses to be "reanimated" (or frozen, of course) as a vegetable for use of taking organs out for transfer. Zombies...death in walking form, perhaps? The very idea of it is fascinating enough, mixed with the adrenaline that would come with facing one, the fear that lives with the name, and the fact that real-life zeds would challenge everything we ever thought about the word "life".

I think for younger people its more of an independence thing. The idea of no more rules, no more people to tell them what to do, the thought of being free. If you read most teens plans you'll notice no parents are mentioned. Its always a group of friends that they would be leading not family. I don't believe they are wishing their parents dead they just love the idea of no more rules and guidelines. Things like driving a car without a licence or walking into a liquor store and coming out with a fifth of whiskey, a porno mag, and a pack of smokes apeals to them. When your sixteen cars are all you think about sometimes. In a post z world you could have any car you could break into. Every unguarded home would be yours for the taking. For me its escapism at its finest. I like to solve problems and life would be one big puzzle. I enjoy inventing things and making something out of nothing. Do I want it to happen? Hell no! I'm a father and wouldn't want this kind of life for my kids. However it is fun to think about? I wouldn't be here if it wasn't.

The crumble of society, the creation of a new society. Like some of the others its a form of escapism, i like the idea of it all. It has its cons (oh so many cons..) but it has pro's. Id rather live through hardships then a monotonous lifestyle of pointless indulgence. Lifes nice as it is, its just boring. However i doubt a zombie outbreak will happen in my time, if ever. I just joined last night while gun shopping. I think this is a great escape from reallity. To me zombies stand for things bad. We get to kill them without remourse and with out judgement. We would all like to have that. That sure as hell is me. I look at this a game of survival and a way of looking outside the box. As some one put it, its a continous puzzle of survivability and surviving takes team work unless your the only one and I sure hope you been to the school of McGyverhood. What I relate the Zombies to are the Nazis like them or not. They are the only ones that are politicaly correct to hate on. And they were REAL. What you can learn from here is what would you do if a major enviromental catastrophy happened and society collapsed. What are you going to do to protect your family and friends. I love this stuff. One its closer than yuo think in reallity. I am not going to know anybody on here we are all at different levels and concepts of why we are here (Forum). It sure is a fun escape.

I read a GREAT quote awhile back that summed it all up quite nicely for me. I apologize, I didn't memorize it (yet can paraphrase it), and I can't recall who said it. I will look it up again in the morning (it's late). But the gist was this:Since the beginning, mankind has been fascinated by its monsters. We don't merely fear them, but are drawn to them. Fear leads to preparation, and preparation leads to survival. In a very primal sense, we love our monsters. When I heard that it struck a chord with me. Do you find this valuable? |

Meh, I am not fascinated specifically by the idea of zombies. For me, it is a fun and imaginative thing to occupy my insomniac sleepless nights. However! Before everybody starts telling me where to shove it, I do believe and hold that there WILL be a massive civilization-changing event within my lifetime. I just don't know if it will come from people trying to eat each other, or from Yellowstone blowing its lid. I prepare for all. Zombies just make it sound fun because I get to shoot things!EDIT: This may be why I get so annoyed with the make-believe and ignorant postings on here. No, IRL you will never drive your Civic through a zombie horde. I think as realistically as possible. Do you find this valuable? |
