Silly, silly looters of stores!

In the zombie-pocalypse anyone who relies on looting stores is screwed. Everyone and their momma will be looting stores. You're as likely to be killed looting a store by other looters as you are to be killed by zombies.

You must be armed in advance and have at least enought food for you and yours to make it to wherever you plan to hole up. Failing a good place to hole up, a stockpile of food that you keep onhand will give you some time to figure out how to access food safely for the long run.

I think looting could be a good way to supplement what you already have, once the initial mayhem dies down. I have a theory that office buildings would be a great place to find water, as most of them have water coolers with those big blue bottles of water.

Stock piling is fine if you have hundred's or even thousands extra to spend. Some of up are poor as hell and can't stock up that much. How the economy is I can barely keep 2 weeks of food in the house at all.

Scavenging for some of us will be necessary. As long as you keep your whits about you and don't try to push others aside you should be able to scavenge with no problems.

That is a very broad statement. Leave the looters to get killed (or kill them yourself with conventional weaponry) then move in later. Do you find this valuable?

Indeed many can not hope to go out and buy five years worth of MREs. At the same time you can stockpile very slowly. Buying an extra can of this or that every time you go to the store.

Buying in bulk does not always save you money. Almost every item will have a 'price per unit' tag on the shelf. I've found that buying two small bags of sugar is actually cheaper than buying a big bag, (at least where I live).

Cutting coupons can help but only for the items you were planning on getting in the first place. Don't buy a box of Lucky Charms just because you have a coupon for it if you didn't plan on getting them anyway. Slowly you can build up a stockpile of food.

My goal is to buy a case of powdered eggs. I love the stupid things but they are expensive as hell.

Few people seem to stockpile water. If the power went out it would probably be the first thing you ran out of.

My water taste like crap. I fill 20-1gallon jugs once a week, and 2 cases of bottle water.

Look at the " normal " amount of looting and shooting going on during disaster we have now. If any part of your plan is going into that mess you are asking for trouble zombies or no zombies. Like I say " if your survival plan starts with, First we drive here, you are toast." 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

That and some rope and a tool strong enough to get through an electricly opened door. An elevator leads down to the actual door. The wall are all backed by concrete and then it's nothing but earth.

I wish but no. When you boil it alldown it's basicly.

Dig a hole.
Reinforce it.
Put in a door/elevator entrance.
Put a roof over it.
Reinforce the roof.
Cover it.
Put in walls, gas, water and the like.
Then hook it all up and dress up the interior.

It takes a LONG time to do all this though.

Barring an earthquake yeah. I'm not in a flood zone so that isn't an issue. And the only other way up is a thick reinforced door that is about 4 feet thick (my paranoia at work). And I have enough supplies to last me through WW3 AND the apocalypse!

I'm out in the country and that is where I'll stay. I agree with you, people go ape s##t when they are hungry. Just check out your local grocery store before a big storm hits. A big advantage of being a country boy when something like this hits is my steak is roaming the back yard and my potatoes are in the root cellar. Extra ammo would be hard to come by though.
