I think that the wiki should have some kind of zombie threat meter. Like blue for all clear, yellow for a possibility of an outbreak, orange for strong chance of an outbreak, and red for "OMFG GATHER ALL YOUR SHIT AND INITIATE YOUR PLANS THE F****** ZED'S ARE COMING!!!!" Also, when the meter is yellow or orange, you could click on it to view the news article or whatever it is that suggests the invasion has begun. The meter would be located at the top of the homepage for all to see. Then people would simply contact the moderators, inform them of a possible outbreak, the moderators would verify this claim and then adjust the meter accordingly. What do you think? Neat. Articles in the news about bodies turning up missing from the morgue, disturbed gravesites, strange infections, cannibalistic behavior, etc could all be cause for status elevation. Spiffy idea. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I like the idea but who wants to be the one to sift through all the information(certainly not me)As I've said, It could be the moderators, or a group of members in charge of looking for said articles report to one single member, who in turn then sifts through the info to find the best ones(most likely to be real infected), then sends those along to his/her chosen moderator for them to review and post their findings (or not depending on if they think any of those sent are real.) 2 out of 2 found this valuable. It's a great idea, the only problem with it is that it's kinda like having a Unicorn Alert System...There aren't any friggen unicorns! It'd be a neat little useless gizmo and be cool looking, but it wouldn't serve any real purpose. If there were actually a zombie outbreak thing, a gauge isn't needed, a simple red light would do the trick, as like a light, zombies are either here (on) or not (off). 1 out of 1 found this valuable. I guess you could reduce the levels of the meter- make it less in number. The thing with the red light though is the difference between a potential outbreak and a full blown one. Or maybe you could just post if it is one (potential) or the other (full blown) when it goes red- just a thought.

good idea but it shoud be hard as he// 2 make the meter go up so if u see it at red run it is a 100% thing. and as for who would run u coud git wiki to vote for a group of 10 or 12 people to make a blue to red call.

Well, I feel that we MUST have the 2 levels between blue and red for the simple reason that, if a news article from a verifiable source seems to indicate zombie-like behavior, that would be a yellow. But if that occurence they did the story on says the behavior starts spreading, and more and more people are joining them, then that's an orange. And finally, we can have a set of rules of what is a good enough reason for us to raise the threat level to red. Because if you logon, see the homepage and the meter and see it's red, you can't just go, "Oh, it's red, maybe theirs a zombie invasion!" NO NO NO!!! The appropriate response would be "OH SI-I!T!!!!! *run's into other room grabs BOB, hops in truck and starts looting/getting his friends.*"So you can see why we must be so maticulous over what IS and what ISN'T a huge threat. If we allow ourselves to be fooled into thinking the invasion is real when it is not, then half the wiki members would end up furious or dead at been having sent on a fools errand. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Volunteers will need to realllllly dedicated to doing so.Will need some hands on experience with the types of banner making, Java, and some design work that looks decent. I'm not sure what Wetpaint permits on its pages, will have to ask Green-Arrow, he's the man with many of the answers for "here". Yeah, but just make sure that not everyone can adjust it. It wouldn't be good to have it suddenly go red and then hear about somebody going nuts and firing at his neighbors because he thought that they were zombies. That wouldn't make this site look very good.

So someone like Byates or whichever mod wants to do it. Do you find this valuable? |
