Stick Shift
Apr 2 2009, 8:01 PM EDT
One problem for some people regarding vehices will be the transmission type. Many performance vehicles and heavy duty vehicles such as semi-trailers use manual transmissions. For some of us, that just makes the drive more enjoyable. But for many, they'll see numbers and an extra pedal instead of a D and will promptly start shaking their heads.

It may be harder to learn, but once you do I find that more enjoyable that automatics. Makes you feel more in control of a car, although your arm can get tired after a while, just build up muscles =)

I learned stick before I could 'learn' to drive.

I meant the whole constantly pushing in and slowly releasing the clutch pedal. especially in my dad's car, which is a 2008 Subaru Legacy Spec.B. It's a Subaru Legacy GT, but it has the six-speed stick shift from the Subaru Impreza WRX STi. So it's a 3600 pound four door with a performance clutch.

I prefer my Lancer. Automatic.Otherwise, the leg thing ALWAYS kicks in. And it's very annoying. Do you find this valuable? |

"Subaru >_>..American cars <3"All Subaru's excluding the Impreza and Forester are made in Indiana, about as American as you can get. My mom's Ford Focus is from Mexico, and GM's are from everywhere but the U.S. anymore. And honestly, try an import, you'll love the dependability and better build quality, and seeing a corner and not screaming in terror. Plus, the turbo charged Subarus are fast as hell. Yep, and Subaru's are manufactured in a zero-landfill production plant, and it's so clean that it is bordered by a National Wildlife Refuge. So take that, you damn Prius drivers! Your car's are all eco-disaster's waiting to happen!

stick shifts also have lots of benefits over automatics. for example you can start one without a good battery

Yes, and they're lighter than automatics, and get better gas mileage than automatics depending on how you drive, and they are so much faster than automatics because YOU choose when to shift up, which is nice if you need to get away in a hurry and staying in that powerband could save your life.

Manual transmissions are great. I own two cars two made by Audi (S8) which has an option of a “clutchless” manual transmission shift levers on the steering wheel-the family car, and a TTS with a regular manual transmission-although you can set it to drive clutchless-it has a “duel clutch” (my midlife crisis car). I think my S has 200+ more horses than the TTI but the TTI is so much more fun to drive. I also just bought an 09 SUV from Honda (Pilot). Not a bad ride decent power auto trans. Driving a manual trans is just more fun, the TTI can chirp 1-5 gears if you try which I of course do try. However the SHTF vehicle would have to be the Honda. Even with all the traction control psycho suspension, and the “Quattro package” the S still got stuck in a surprise snow storm and I mean stuck. The Honda goes through everything-I took my dog to the vet in 14 inches of snow w/out a problem. Besides if I am going to need space and be mowing over Z’s I’d rather do it in the less expensive SUV.

What do you do for a living? You listed four cars (?) , an S8 which is like a hundred grand base price, two different TT models both north of thrity grand, and a thirty thousand dollar Honda. What do you do to fund two hundred grand worth of cars?

"Oh god, the burn of a Mitsu fan. No 3DA, I looked up to you! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! :P"I'm not a Mitsubishi fan. I just like ONE of their cars. Very much. And if I could get a Trans Am Firebird.... That would make me very happy. And a '78 Monte Carlo would have the same effect. Same with a '91 Camaro, or an '02. Do you find this valuable? |
