general survival preparedness
May 9 2009, 1:06 AM EDT
ok, i live in the southern part of illinois, stuck between southeast missouri and western kentucky, and today we had ONE HELL OF A WINDSTORM! 110 MPH winds tore hell out of four counties in my area. now we are out of power for the next three days (at least) and stores are closed ( i am currently at my sisters house in another town which still has power) . now people are freaking out "how are we going to get food?" thats crazy to think that so many people dont have enough food in their kitchen to last a couple days. how unprepared could you be? i mean we lost power last Feb for a few days because of an ice storm, and january of 08' we were out of power because of another ice storm. why havent these people learned from the last two disaster? i made jokes with my friends that its a good thing that it was a windstorm and not a zombie outbreak cause there would be alot of dead people. most people will die from being unprepared and rushing out to walmart or somewhere and die in the choas 4 out of 4 found this valuable. lived in Chama N.M. a while back, A huge blizzard destroyed the super walmart (the only store for about 80 miles). when it came time that we needed food (30 or so days) we went hunting. tracking is easy in 5 ft of wet snow.

" tracking is easy in 5 ft of wet snow. "And if you're like me and do your hunting in the grocery store (SUPER POGUE) you can always boil some of that wet snow to make yourself a nice cup o' noodles. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"ok, i live in the southern part of illinois, stuck between southeast missouri and western kentucky, and today we had ONE HELL OF A WINDSTORM! 110 MPH winds tore hell out of four counties in my area.Freeze dried foods, canned foods, MRE's, even seeds, soil and especially water! These are all important. I have a steady supply of water packets, water bottles, etc. Not to mention my water comes from well water! I have 30 cases of mre's (some c rations too, my grandpa likes them). Do you find this valuable? |

Interesting. I don't know if I would trust anything made that long ago, given that our MREs today have a shelf life of about 10-12 years under the kindest conditions.

"No shit Shurlock.....99% of people will be unprepared. Who are these people that everyone is always talking about that are going to loot Wal-Mart? I've only been here a month but I believe I've seen a lot more people who think its a crazy idea. Whos to say that people who aren't members of this site won't feel the same way. Stop concentrating on the negetive and recognize the positive. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"im not concetrating on the negative. i was simply stating that 99% of people are unprepared for any disaster. we have had three consecutive storms that knocked out regional power and people haven't learned anything. You've had three consecutive storms and nobodies learned anything? Where do live Poland? After one ice storm most of the people in my area have generators now and almost everyone already had wood burning furnaces. Where I come from if you weren't lucky enough to have some food stored up your neighbors would make sure you had some. What I was saying about concentrating on the negetive is this: Its no secret that thier are going to be unprepared idiots in this world but for every idiot there are some smart prepared people as well. Your local media probably concentrated on the dipshits in your area and would never dream of doing a story on the people who were ready and can cruise through a disaster. Its like when a tornado hits near home, they never talk to the people who have built storm shelters and clean up thier own mess. They go find the most ignorant, inbred jackass they can find and tape them bitching about how the state and county hasn't come and cleaned thier mess up yet and they want to know whos going to take care of them because they don't have insurance. Just because that one jackhole has that opinion doesn't mean thats how the whole county feels and is. We've become a "take care of me" society. Nobody wants to take care of themselves. However there are still people in this world who can take care of themselves and those will be the people who will help keep our species going. The rest will be thinned from the herd when disaster strikes. Natural selection, 'aint it grand. Do you find this valuable? |
