"That's why we should give kids guns to weed out the problem kids."
Lets say this happened.

You have one handgun. You are legally allowed to give it to a child to keep (ya right!). There are seven children to choose from. They all look innocent, but you're not so sure about that.

By "problem" kids, I don't mean the bullies and faggots like that, I mean the kids who can't handle guns responsibly. Would you give a gun to them?

That's a problem that solves itself. If the kid accidentally shoots himself, then you know to give it to someone else. Do you find this valuable?

They might shoot themselves, or they might shoot another person. Either way you should still get a good 10-20 years in federal prison.

Back on topic, i drive a patrol car all night long. I am a security patrolman, i have both my sidearm and 12 gauge shotgun mounted in my car, and i can run down any zeds that are so kind as to step in front of the push bars of my vehicle. So i would say i have a decent chance at work. Do you find this valuable?

I think Reaper37's right. Lets get back on topic, and end this part of the discussion.

The pressure washer were I work goes up to about 250 psi and 120 degrees. It's not the most powerful you can get, but it'll shred a zed nicely.

Unfortunately I work in a research lab near a hospital... the potential for Z-day's central infection to start here is high. If I'm lucky enough for it to start elsewhere, it's still a terrible place to stay. There are too many windows and not enough doors. There's only one java shop downstairs with no other food sources outside a few vending machines (unless I want to go to the hospital, which is a terrible idea so close to the beginning), and the water all depends on working power.

Although, it might be nice to start out here, as there are plenty of medical supplies to leave with, if the infection doesn't start here. Antibiotics, tranquilizers/anesthetics, syringes, gauze, bandages, stitching, and all manner of hazardous chemicals.

How did I miss this thread.
My workplace is good and bad:
Good: No windows at all
Three exits on different sides of the building
Basement level
all interior doors are heavy fire doors with manual and magnetic locks(only the mags stay engaged)
Lots of good improvisable weapons

Bad: It's a coroners office so if the time between death and reanimation is long, we'll probably be the first to see it.
No food
It's underneath a city office building so it will be full of panicked idiots
It's cold(I carry a jacket in the middle of summer)
If the power goes out it will stink quick

All in all - only if I had too would I bug in here

As well as school (which is very open and would suck, apart from the tech rooms and labs, for weapons, etc.), I work pary time at McDonalds. Lots of food, apart from with no power the freezes and fridge go off, rendering that usless. Not much weapons either. couple of knives, fry baskets?!, spatula for lifting meat of grill, frozen meat patties?!, not much else.

I'd rather be at home and try and get out.

P.S. Live in Aus, so not much hope of taking gun from someone in the store.

I work for a grocery wholesaler who sells to grocery, dollar, and other stores.

At the warehouse I will be okay, several years of food and water, but only tools, and metal pipes for weapons. I am only there less than 2 hours a day.

The rest of my day is driving a semi with a 30' trailer. Traveling around Michigan, Northern Indiana, and Northern Ohio, and dropping off merchandise.

I should be okay in the truck, If I need to I can run over any zombies in my path, although I only have some tools (one of which is a 36" crow bar). The trailer always has some food and water to use if I have to stop some were. I also have a decent first aid kit, and always carry a cooler with food, water, and pop in it.

The bad part is when I have to stop and make a delivery at different stores. I won't know if people in the store or area have been infected, or if the store will be over run by crazed people trying to loot supplies.

I work at a large hospital complex, I know sounds bad at first but it was built to be a mental institution back when they locked people up for the duration. Windows are laminated and nearly unbreakable. Multiple diesel generators with thousands of gallons of fuel in holding tanks. 100 acre grounds surrounded by 8 foot, heavy chain link fence/across the front it's wrought iron. All (4) entrances have iron gates. Nearly all the buildings are connected by tunnels to prevent having to go outside, same buildings and tunnels form a "courtyard" with no good access except another iron gate. Full repair and maintenance facilities.

It is a hospital so whatever treatments are possible are probably found there. Food could be an issue, not a huge stockpile for the numbeer of people likely to be there.

Overall, pretty good I'd say.

I'm an Industrial Maintenance tech Plastic bottle factory. It would be an crappy place to hunker down but in my shop I can damn near build a tank :) I allready have an annoying (I call it fun) habit of making things that go "Boom" I'd just stick around long enough to do an "A-team" conversion to my car or our yard truck and plow my may home, If all else fails I open up my trunk grap my BOB and Rifle and walk home pack the family into the RV and off to Maine we go... I work in...I DON'T work, now that I come to think of it. I am 14, so I study in a 100 or 200 years old school, with almost falling iron gates. The upside are the fences. more than 11 feet (3,5 m) high, concrete, not bad. 4 entrances, two pretty strong, two weaker than my grand-grand-grand-dad. You see the point.

Another good thing, I suppose, are the musical instruments in it (It's a music school, by the way). They can be used to raise the morale, I suppose?

I'd rather escape with my flute 'n friends, anyways. I'm seeing myself spanking zombie heads with a flute. loooool. Now, seriously, I think the besst weapons in my school would be the supports for scores (I don't remember the name). Not those old ones, only a structure, that can be folded into small things, but those sturdy, iron, heavy ones.

I work in an automotive parts and accessories shop. Easily secured, with barred windows and anti-theft doors etc. So quite secure, and a ready supply of tools that would make good weapons in a pinch.

The downside, though, is that it's directly across the road from the local cemetery...

I don't remember where, I read that graveyards were safe, because the wood was strong enough to keep a zombie of breaking it or something. Has anyone read the same? Do you find this valuable?

I work at a shop that repairs caster segments for the local steel mill. We have a big fabrication department and machine shop, so plenty of steel, cutting torches and welders to reinforce anything or make whatever melee weapons I could possibly need. Plus everyone has a toolbox full of sledgehammers, crowbars, and sharp pointy things. I think I could make a go of it. Do you find this valuable?

I work at a small office building within a large office park. the office is pretty decently sized- 7000 sq ft, but it has windows all around with nice glass doors at the entry- its a great place to work but a terrible place to bug in at.
Then there's the hundreds of offices in close proximity, with thousands of people at work~ within a 1/2 mile radius I'd say there's probably 15,000 people.
Then there's the freeway that's about 300 yards to the north, it's a very busy freeway that frequently jams up all the time. if you count the freeway, well, this is a terrible place to bug in during a zombies apocalypse. Too many people. building cannot be secured easily. the freeway, the major domestic airport nearby,

It's not that safe here during normal times. not that great and area, lots of commercial burglary, cars broken into, there was a mugging in this area 3 weeks ago. I don't like to work late, because someone might attack me in the parking lot and take everything I have (plus everything at the office). When I plan to work late I usually bring a handgun with me, and after everyone leaves I take it into the office with me. I don't work late very often, and when I do this is usually only the only office with the lights on past midnight. It can be seen a mile away.

The plus side is that the office is usually stocked with 2-3 cases of bottled water, various snack foods, and lots and lots of coffee (we go thru about 12 lbs a month). we also have fieldwork tools & supplies in the back- many that can be made into weapons, others can be used to fortify the place (but still pointless to try)

My workplace is actually quite good for defense, and as such is my BOL. My office building has only 1 entrance and 3 exits, All of the doors are either solid wood or metal, and it resides hidden near a forested area with bluffs surrounding it on 3 sides. Aside from all that we have an audio booth with concrete walls, ceiling, and floor and a 5" thick steel door. Our office building is also fairly large as we have an empty studio where we build sets for shooting video. the whole office is probably 4500-5000 sq ft, and only has 2 rooms with windows.

Because we usually repair our own equipment, we have most any tools you would need short of milling machines and lathes.

My workplace is about as insecure as you could imagine someplace being that still had doors.

There are 6 doors. 5 are full length glass. Around a hundred windows around the sides of the building, all start 2 inches off the ground and go up 8 feet. Full length glass with one bar across the center horizontally. Already hating the place? It gets worse. It is across the street from a high school and next to a large church, both places to avoid. The floor plan is very open (the building is mostly a gym) so if somebody gets into the front door they have access to most of the place immediately.

On the upside, you can create an exit easily.
