Excellent article, very valid. I like that he mentions the "beach body," because you see this alot: It's not hard to go to the gym every day and lift weights. But without cardio training, none of it counts.

We were talking about this in the Energy to burn thread: http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/thread/2909077/Energy+to+burn

After the world ends is not the time to get in shape. Exercise requires your body to consume more calories than you would need otherwise. In a world where food is scarce and water may be hard to come by, it will be too late for you to start working out and getting in shape. You need to focus on your fitness NOW.

Spend 30 minutes a day running, biking, rowing a boat, anything that gets your heart pumping. It sucks, and it hurts, but the more you sweat before Z day, the less you will bleed after. It is absolutely fucking amazing what a person can do if they are in good cardio health. I know a guy who runs 3 miles in 21 minutes and smokes 1 1/2 packs of marlboros a day.

I'm working on it.
Fitness is definitely an area where I need improvement. I realized one day that I couldn't even pull up my own body weight if I needed to get away from a zombie; i.e. to jump a fence or get onto a roof. It's ridiculous to plan for the zombie apocalypse without taking personal fitness into account.

I also found an ad on the blog linking to this company which makes long lasting heirloom seed collections. http://www.everlastingseeds.com/

great article, im one of those guys that has always carried extra weight -- i had to lose 60 lbs just to be looked at when i first tried to join the army -- and to be honest im still a big guy, but i workout constantly, usually 2 hours of cardio and 1 hour of upper or lower body work outs M-F, usually taking weekends off.

I probably wouldnt have to workout as much if i would quit all my bad habits, but hey its my sacrifice to maintain my lifestyle.

6 pack abs are mirror masturbation. 20%-30% body fat is what I would consider "healthy," for a survival scenario. You may be a little plump, but with that kind of workout routine you can probably run circles around the naturally skinny guy who doesn't think he has to beat the pavement just because his belly is flat.

Cardio fitness is EVERYTHING.

Probably yes, but not to the standard that i would like.
I was so glad to find a Fitness Article on this website, because you might have all the guns and the equipment and the armour etc etc, but it means nothing if you can't run in it, thus why military personel around the world train in their gear.

I don't have any survival gear at all basically because i'm a poor 18yr old uni student and my parents wouldn't like it if i got my gun licence and bought a rifle (have to wait till i have my own home)
But as soon as i finish saving up around 5000 i'm looking at buying camo gear, a couple pair of boots, a utility belt/harness and a multi day pack with maby some survival tools and starting a Special Forces fitness program that Mens Health here in australia has released.

Also.... about Post Z-poc fitness and etc, what are the thoughts on taking over a fitness centre and using that to train your survivors or atleast anyone that wants to go out on patrols and etc?

i agree that the most important thing on Z day will be cardio fitness.
Oh, it has advantages in day to day life as well, it will make you live a longer and healthier life !

As in the USA, here in Western Europe there are a lot of obese people.
without a doubt they will be the first to die. There Truck or shotgun wont save them (for long)

As already being said, skinny / normal build people get a false sense of security.
These People with a normal BMI (body mass index) mostly arent fit at all.
for example (good looking girls/women) keep there figure most of the time by eating little, not by doing sports. they cant run for miles.

Or those fitness guys strutting around in tight shirts with a massive V shape. Even if they train there legs it is with squats or deadlifts for mass building, those who dont do extensive cardio are doomed.
bench pressing 250 pounds wont save you on Z day!
I'm not even getting started on those who use steroids/ anabolics.

One must be able to munch miles jogging, canoeing or riding a bike.
I started doing cardio 4 months ago

i jog 5miles in under 1 hour once or twice a week.
swim/ scuba fin once a week
ride my bike about 40miles a week

my goal is doing a 20 mile race next year
and maybe half a thriathlon in the future (not sure)
