Custom Makarov Article

http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/page/LittleJon%27s+Custom+CCW+Makarov+System

The article is not completed yet, I've got a few more things to add.
-----Holster options
-----Ammunition options
-----Overall price tag for different potential routes
-----My "future" build; whenever that will get started...!

Is there anything else you guys would like to see? I've gotten some great feedback already from a few members, but I'm looking for stuff you all would like to see. I could run a price comparison between the "custom mak rig" and another common CCW choice, like a Walther PPK/S or a KelTec P3AT. Thoughts??

One of my favorite guns. With my C&R, I have added three to my collection of former KomBlok arms in the Mak family.

You've done a decent job outlining those excellent positives with the little pistol. Hard to add more when you've got the "groundwork" covered.

Best 'amen' I'll add to is the Wolff spring kit. Makes gun more manageable and in turn useful to shooters with smaller hands.

Please continue this useful series, great addition to ZSDW!

Have you tried putting a keyring through the mag release to make it easier to activate it? Do you find this valuable?

I have, and truth be told I think it's easier in its factory setup. I release without modifying my grip using my left pinky and pulling the mag out with my left hand, so that the barrel is still pointed at target.

The ring might be better for some, but the release is the one thing I won't mess with too much.

hm.....I see....I personally don't have all that experience with the PM. Is it your carry pistol?

Nice article, as always.

It is currently, simply because I don't have anything better yet. I've got a few other handguns I've been eyeballing but being unemployed and getting back into college I'm so limited cash wise. I'd really like an XD compact or Ruger LCP but I simply can't justify the expense right now.

If you ever get an opportunity to fire the Makarov, definitely take it! It's an absolute joy to shoot.

Another excellent handgun is the CZ82 - they're like super Makarovs. I have one set aside for me in my buddy's gun safe, once I get the cash...

Are they the ones that fire the 7.62 round?

That's the CZ-52 you're thinking of. The -82 was it's replacement. It's basically a Makarov that has 12 round double stack magazines, drop away magazine release - which is positioned in a similar location on the frame as a 1911. Same disassembly method as Makarov. Better ergonomics and trigger, and much more modern. It is unfortunately a bit wider, due to the double stack magazine, and this makes it considerably less concealable.

Maybe a little bit. I think dimensionally its just a tad larger across the board. They're both really interesting handguns - I have a soft spot for those Soviet and Com-block guns! Do you find this valuable?

Unfortunately, no. I'd love to get a chance to handle one. I don't know a whole lot about the PMM but I'm sure its great. It shoots a 9x18 high velocity round, right?

Yeah, high velocity by a margin of 100 meter per second or something.
Looking through, some sites state that the 82 uses its own kind of high velocity ammo as well?

it wouldn't suprise me. The -82 is a tank; when picked up, it feels really robust. All of the components are bulkier - the barrel is even heavier duty. The Czech seem to love perfecting other designs and putting more powerful ammo in them...

I was reading up on it, input is almost universally positive.
Although, people aren't so positive on the 18mm performance...
I admit I don't know as much on these type of weapons.

Indeed, most people seem to believe that anything less than toting a .45 or 10mm hand cannon is "underpowered" - these same voices are the ones putting down the 9mm Makarov cartridge. I will admit, it's quite weak compared to 9mm Luger, but its slightly more powerful than .380 ACP, making it more than enough to do the job.

I've seen on the net where guys will make fun of the 9x18 mak but tote how the .380 (9x17mm) is a viable self defense cartridge when they're nearly identical! I think it's possibly a reloading issue - they can't keep their once shot brass with the berdan primed 9x18 makarov ammo!!

I'm a bit late.

I love my Makarov. Very nice article, Jon.

I love and hate the sights. They're very small, but I found that to greatly assist in accurate shooting when I went out. But you do make a good point; I just handled the Makarov a second ago, and when I looked down the sights, I realized that it is in desperate need of some higher-visibility sights.

My Mak (of the East German variety) comes with sloped grip panels, and I absolutely love them. They were a bit annoying at first, and seemed to get in the way of a good grip, but now I've realized how great they are ergonomically.

Again, good article.
