1. RE: Solar Battery Charger
Jul 12 2009, 11:18 PM EDT
Decent idea IH.Our rechargables are powered now either off of ship mounted commercially built 12vt to Xvt DC systems. or the planned system below: I have four of the large Harbor Freight 4x5' panels, waiting to have a rotating rack to be built to take advantage of the bright nearly year round sun we have here in desert. Have some planning to do to build a propeller system to drive the 120 amp GM alternator to charge and top off the marine deep cycles. Seems that all of the "free energy" I can score adds up to a few more coins not given to the Man. Come the emergency and after, can see things like this "priceless". Good line of thinking! SnC 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Decent idea IH.I'm totally with ya, Skip. I was thinking about that when I've been working on "what's in your fortress" page. I was doing to research on power systems (solar/wind/mechanical) and you're right, these are not that complicated and would be absolutely priceless. I also noticed those solar panels are getting more pricey too : P This charger was kinda my first attempt at something simple - now I'm gonna start looking for more "watts"...LOL! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. You can easily modify these to work without the photocell. You can either replace the photocell with a micro toggle switch from radio shack so you can still turn the light on or off like a mini flashlight, or if you are using it solely as a charger, just remove the photocell. The LED must be left in the circuit to allow it to properly charge. I can do a write up on this if you'd like. Do you find this valuable? |
