Limited Supplies
Jul 15 2009, 6:48 PM EDT | Post edited: Jul 15 2009, 6:48 PM EDT
Scenario Time! Here it is:
The outbreak is upon you. You have only a matter of hours before the undead are in your own town. What this means is that there will still be consequences if you go around "scavenging", so you can only grab items you own. However, due to whatever, you may only grab one weapon, one piece of armor, and supplies which must not exceed 15lbs. What do you grab, assuming it can be anything you might reasonably own?
Do you find this valuable?

I think the one minute run works better and makes more sense. You take what you need and have access to, rather then being restricted.

From what I own right now, I'd just go with my .22 Ruger pistol, my backpack, a few dry foods, and ammo. Do you find this valuable?

That is the idea, instead of being limited to one minute, you have to plan what you would take if you had to be picky, and maybe re-evaluate your priorities. Most people would always go with a gun, but if you think about it, wouldn't you sometimes rather go without and take something else instead?

I guess that makes sense....

How do you define armor though? Most people here don't actually use armor.

Would a survival knife, flare gun, or other such equipment count as a "weapon"?

Armor can be leather jacket, denim jeans, etc.

No, that would be supplies, except maybe the knife.

ouch...15 lbs is nothing. I've been trying to get my bob down to 20 lbs : P

Armor: German Flak Vest
Weapon: AK
Other: Knife, Budget Kit (8 lbs), water (2 liters) & food (rest of the weight)

Yeah, 15 pounds isn't much. Most long guns are 8-10 pounds.

Armor: No armor, but I will be wearing fleece-lined jeans, a good long-sleeve t-shirt, and hiking boots. I want to keep the "average joe" look.
Weapons: My dad's S&W model 1012 shotgun.
Other: (in a school backpack) Folding knife, folding saw, hooded sweatshirt, raincoat, box of candy bars, 2 bottles of water, a small fire-starting kit, a first aid kit, a maglite, and a compass.

This is why i have a vehicle put aside and stored with multiple items for a few people. However in this scenario, i would take my:

Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun (AK47 is too heavy, not enough ammo with my hangun)
First aid kit
Couple bottled waters
Food Rations

I will post two lists: one for before the undead arrive in my town and one for after they do. The reasoning is this: at first there will be some worry and minor panic as news reports and rumors come in. During this stage, I want to look like a normal Joe and not draw attention to myself. After the full outbreak has set in, then I will want more functional gear and don't care what I look like.

Pre-Undead:

Armor / Clothing: Jeans, t-shirt, jacket, ball cap, boots, sunglasses (which are actually shooting goggles to protect my eyes), leather gloves in pocket.
Weapons: Concealed Carry .38, KABAR, both under jacket
Supplies: Regular backpack with trade-able supplies like booze, cigarettes, jewelry, ammo, etc. First aid kit, flashlight, water.

Once undead actually show up:

Armor / Clothing: Tactical pants, Underarmor-style long sleeved shirt, knee, elbow, and forearm guards, boonie hat, jacket, boots, goggles, gloves and more.
Weapons: Mossberg Tactical 12GA, prev. mentioned KABAR
Supplies: Bug-Out Vest, with basic survival supplies. I'd like to take my Bug-Out bag as well, but that would put me over the weight limit. That's why I have the multi-stage BOB system: Vest > Pack > Duffel, if I have the ability.

Hell of a low weight there. My school backpack is usually close to 30 pounds at any given time.

But, I'll play along.

- .45 caliber handgun with two magazines and two extra boxes of shells
- Survival knife
- Small flashlight
- Small first aid kit
- Rest would be food and water

Clothing would be jeans, t-shirt, leather bomber jacket, fedora, hiking boots, and a digital watch.

"Previous quote deleted"
I have so much stuff in my cars + house at all times "at the ready" that this scenario seems entirely unrealistic, given my level of preparation.

Even so given the limitations :

1) Mossberg 580A1 combat shotgun
2) As many rounds of 00 buckshot as weight will allow
3) Heavy denim jacket.
4) Work Gloves
5) Roll of duct tape
6) Sunglasses
7) Black "#20" Baseball cap
8) FireFlash Flashlight

1) Nighthawk .45 talon ( with the weight limit I guess a hand gun would be better)
2) As much ammo as weight limit allows. ( now do clips and ammo count as 1 item or individual items?)
3) Leather jacket
4) My Nike running shoes.
5) Holster for gun.
6) Flashlight
7) Backpack

I'm going to go with the 1 minute model for practicality..... the whole mad grab kinda thing filling a backpack.
1) My marlin 336
2) As much ammo as I have on hand. (40 or so at the moment)
3) Various canned foods, bars and water
4) A set of weather appropriate clothes (extra socks)
5) Comfortable shoes
6) My quality multi tool
7) Most detailed map I can find.
Then I would set out hoping to god I run into some people like the more level headed people here.... and to not get shot by accident.
