Self Service Prognostication
Jul 22 2009, 12:24 PM EDT | Post edited: Jul 22 2009, 12:24 PM EDT
Instead of reading other people's doomsday scenarios, has anyone tried to predict the future on their own?

Tarot, Runes, Tea Leaves, Wind Reading, Palms, etc?

I asked my magic eight ball "Will the Apocalypse happen this year? " And it said YES. Now, I'm not going to take the word of just one magic eight ball, no matter how cute.

I'm looking for mystical second opinions.

I heard about some people who can read the future by throwing coins. I tried to do the same, and now I predict I will spend the evening digging change from down the back of the couch.

So I guess it works, kind of. I predicted it would be a waste of time, and I was right. Maybe there is something to it?

Use your magic eight ball to predict an apocalypse? I usually only use mine for major financial decisions-like my investment in McSchwarts Burgers and Circumcisions-you have heard of them, right? No? Aarrgghhh damn toy.

Seriously, when I lived in Maine, I rented my basement apartment to a husband and wife who practiced Wicca and they told me we were in our "last years on earth." Now they may have just been nutty but they seemed pretty sure. They were older mid 50s well educated and on a "journey" to live in every state so they had to have money it isn’t cheap to move once forget 50 times. They were regular people which is what made it scary, those on the fringes always predict the end, when the regular people start it becomes scary.
I hope we can squeeze another 70 years out so nothing happens to my kids but I don’t see humans going too far past 2100. We are on an unsustainable course environmentally (not global warming), financially, and internationally with every Marx Brothers (Groucho, Harpo, and Chico not Carl) government getting nukes.

Okay, I read cards for "The World's next five years"

And here are the results:

Present influences: Father of Wands in the East - Creative urge manifesting through air.

Present events: Six of Stones - Possible illness, must find balance.

Past events: The Fool - Movement is possible in any direction, the next step brings change.

Past influences: Daughter of wands in the East (R) - Something has caused the harvest to fail.

Future events: Ten of Swords (R) - FIRE, Fever, No move is possible.

Future influences: Two of swords - Forceful action.

Environment: Daughter of Swords in the South - The world of manifestation.

Strengths: The Universe - Birth to Death, Completion, Manifestation about to occur, The number 400.

Hopes and Fears: Five of Cups (R) - Excess, damage may be done, The stream may turn into a gully.

Final outcome: Ace of Stones in the West (R) - Lack of growth, sterility, No source.

I don't know how to do this so I had to just copy the answers from a book. I don't have much more than a romantic appreciation for divination, but you have to admit the reading is a little creepy.

Only in so far as it is vague, all-encompassing and could apply to anything. Squish it and force it into any shape and it could be taken as spookily accurate.

Now show me a prediction that is firm, detailed and certain, then I will believe it. Right up to the point where it's wrong.

I want to see a prediction that says "In 2011, there will be a world faimne, caused by that Douchebag Kim Jong Il as he nukes India becuase he saw a bad Bollywood movie."

Now that's something I could get behind.

Nobody lets me have any fun.

I go to all the trouble of telling the World's future and I can't get one person to say "Whoa, dude, that's far out."

wow, that's ugly!

I had a book around here to explain how to read that, maybe I should dig it out.

Either way, we've got possible illness, changes coming, harvest dies.....wow, if you read that to predict Z-day, you're all about it!

VERY CREEPY!

Funny that you mention that Ironhand. Seattle, for the first time in a long time, has had less that .25 in of rainfall in the past 60 days.
I was talking to my brother in Chicago and he said it's been the Driest Winter they've had in like 25 years, and that the current weather there was being referred to as "Seattle Weather" I.E. Drizzle, but not much rain. Cloudy for weeks on end, and the temp hovering around 50-60 deg.

Something may be a' stirin' here friends...

I've seen some fair compelling evidence to support that.

It definitely gets your attention.

I wonder too, if man just needs something to justify their need to survive and prepare for survival. Things like apocalyptic predictions or Y2K, et al to feed our fears and fantasies.

OR if we're on the proverbial "circle of fate" that has a definite beginning and end. No more special than the circle before us and life will continue after we are gone.

2012 does fall within the five years. It covers until July 2014, but does the "future" stuff mentioned in the reading fall in the five years or after it? Do you find this valuable?

You realise that the UNIX quivalent of Y2K is set for 2038? I think the programmers are kind of hoping that all the 2012 nonsense is true, because then they don't have to worry about fixing anything.

I believe that the "future" would be AFTER the original question's 5 years span.

Heres my take at tarot.

Recent Past- Queen of Swords- coldness, judgementalism, criticism

Better Nature- Nine of Swords- Illness. Suffering, Malice. Cruelty, Pain.

Obstacles- Ace of Swords- The invocation of demoniac force

Near Future- Three of Wands- Established force and strength

My Near Future- Nine of Cups- Complete success

Influences- Two of Swords- The battle is almost won.

Hopes/Fears- Eight of Wands- Too much force applied too suddenly. Very rapid rush, but too quickly passed and expended. Violent but not lasting. Swiftness. Rapidity. Courage, boldness, confidence, freedom, warfare. Violence.

Outcome- Eight of Cups- Success abandoned

what do you think?

Well if the apoco is going to happen, hopefully we still have at least 5 years, even up untill the ending months of 2012 would be fine, gives me plenty of time to purchase items needed for perfect plan and be able to set up kick ass colony/base/ect.

With the financial earnings i get from my company here in utah, and the ones i will receive from the one i am starting in vegas next year, i would be able to purchase some great stuff.

As for tarot cards, i never really believe much in them, however i had a friend of mine do a tarot reading on me one time, and the results she and the reading came up with were astonishingly accurate i have to admit. So i am not saying i believe the two tarot readings mentioned here, however would not entirely look past them.
