make your own weapons

sure its good to gather up supplies for z-day, but what are you going to do if when it comes you are nowhere near your gear. its one of the things that easily gets over looked. everyone should learn to make their own weapons even if its something as crude as a sharpened stick (wich most people can't do surprisingly) 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Are you meaning "fabrication of weapons" or "Improvising weapons"?

There's a huge difference. You are more likely to find an improvised weapon than be able to fabricate one. This is one big reason melee combat should never be overlooked.

So, if you use a steel pipe as a weapon it is improvised, but if you sharpen the end it is fabricated?

If you use a pipe for a weapon - it is improvised as that is not it's original intention and it has not been modified.

If you sharpen it, you are altering it (modifying) and it is "fabricated", because you just turned it into a spear.

low preassure pistol rounds are exelent for easy fabrication, even automatics can be made without any more machining than a couple dremel cuts a drill and some decent galvanized nuts n' bolts. Do you find this valuable?

Several lengths of overhead transmission wire about three feet long duck taped together makes a dandy flail and since its not completely rigid you gain a lot of kinetic energy. Add a little weight to the end and you got some serious thumping power.

I fail to understand how you could make auto rounds out of nuts n' bolts. If he can explain himself I'm going to learn something today.

I'm looking forward to that too.

I've seen shotgun "shells" made by using round brass stock, but can't say I've seen nut and bolts to ammo before, especially auto rounds.

it's not the rounds, bolts can hold reciever plates on without the need for welds, they're also handy for jury rigging a tang.
and the description was an over simplification but .22LR is low enough preassure to allow for some leeway in strengthening the bore.
sorry for the confusion, the ammo is still factory made.

again sorry for the confusion, the bolts are used in the actual gun not the ammo
and "Gravel Guns" are way to dangerous, water pipe wot take the preassure of any effective shotgun type unless you can find some old barrel for a 12 guage but then makeshift ammo is kinda usless.

well all this gun craft is fine and dandy but it doesn't help most of us without the time nor talent to do it. If i'm on the street away from home when the Z day comes and the zombie are running or walking at me, i'm not going to sit down and make a gun. I'm not a member of the A team. I need something fast and strong. Like a pipe with some knives duck taped to the top or road sign with a sharpened end Do you find this valuable?

I like lawn tools, there are lawn care trucks almost everywhere and tool handles are hardwood, likely better than say a broomstick made of poplar or pine (softwoods). Most houses have some kind of tool shed that can be quickly raided for an axe, pick handle, etc. If lucky you might even find a brush axe, a ready made weapon if ever there was one.

I may go get one now that I'm thinking about it. Wicked.

true, the good days of "american made" are over. Everything is made of crap plastic and metal. Most of my best tools are like thirty years old. I've fixed them up and made them shiny, but they shouldn't last longer that new tools. I was working the other day and I broke a screw driver. WTF!?! that shouldn't happen.
