BOB for cheap bastards.

Something I think would work great as a improvised bug out bag or even a pack to carry in your vehicle is a PVC bug out bag. Just take a 3' to 4' length of PVC pipe anywhere from 6" to 12" in diameter. Put a cap on one end and a threaded plug on the other. Tie on a length of nylon rope or strap. You'd be amazed how much a piece of pipe will hold and pvc is guaranteed waterproof. When your at camp you can empty it and head to the nearest source of water and return with enough water to last you a good while. If your in a situation where you have to stash your BOB for a while theres no worries of your belongings getting wet or trashed by wild animals or dogs. A coat of olive green or any flat non reflective paint would make it a little less noticeable. This is not perfect by any means but if your a cheap bastard or want a spare pack or something to keep in your vehicle I don't think you'd be disapointed using this kind of pack. 10 out of 10 found this valuable. That's a damn good idea T-Rattler! You could keep it in your trunk, you can strap it to the roof, you can strap it to one of your bumpers. I gotta email some guys in the Army about that idea... I can totally see the value in this. And it's really REALLY inexpensive.

Excellent idea. I wish I would have thought of that. Before heading "over here" I put all of my "sensitive" items in a steel ammo can that was about 4' tall. I believe it was for holding 120mm mortars. The PVC would have actually worked better because it doesn't rust like steel can.

Ooh, I just thought of something for if you don't want to go to all the trouble of painting your P-BOB and attaching a strap:I have a folding camping chair (walmart, $7) that came with a bag that has a strap. Take the chair out, put the P-BOB in and now you have a carrier. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Contractors and tradesmen have been doing this for years. Take some ABS or PVC, cap it, and strap it to the lumber rack to store things like levels, surveyor sticks, etc. The method is also used by weapons and drug smugglers to hide their contraband in their backyards. And again used by fans of Geocacheing to hide the cache. I really like the idea of being able to use it as a makeshift bucket to carry water. Do you find this valuable? |

You could take some Sling studs and glue them in to put a sling on it instead of rope, then when you reach your camp/BOL take off the sling and put it on your rifle or shotgun

An original, inventive and resourceful idea.Still, if i didnt already have 2 decent camping rucksacks and was even poorer than i already am, id probably just buy a cheap bag for £10-20 and some duct tape incase it ripped somewhere. I used to use cheap bags for school and they lasted for years. Do you find this valuable? |

"You could take some Sling studs and glue them in to put a sling on it instead of rope, then when you reach your camp/BOL take off the sling and put it on your rifle or shotgun"if the tube's long enough you could screw the studs in instead of gluing for a more secure connection and seal it with some silicone, i believe most swivel studs are screw in types anyway.... BTW timber, love the new pic Do you find this valuable? |
