Bug out locations- Ready made compounds/defendable fortresses
Sep 13 2009, 10:55 AM EDT
In the interest of the community, for those who currently do not have a defendable position (long term) or a suitable bug out location, this website may help:http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/house-of-the-day.html Some of these places (for sale pre-Z-day) are clearly in the 'OMG" category of places to live. When I see these various homes, I consider the following criteria: amount of land location in relation to population/resources inherent built-in defenses amount of effort required to establish/expand defense in depth capacity (how many can reside comfortably), standard and max capacity (short term storage of people) vehicle capacity Since this is a sales site, it will change on offerings, however, the real estate doesn't move. Since most if not all of us do not have the financial resources to build/buy most of these homes currently, should any of them be located near you come Z-day, well. As for me, design ideas and costs keep my interest. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

I like that place in the Hamptons; It is open, not to for from the water, and it looks like there is more homes around, with about as good a qualities.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124950534077308895.html Do you find this valuable? |

This is great! Good info and obvious long term planning M_D. You could make a list from best to worst and record them on your GPS. Printing up maps from Google Earth and adding them to your bug out bag would also be an option.

These look like great places to live in general if you don't mind being off grid or at least far from major highways. Good site!

Great responses and thanks! I wish more on the wiki would see this thread and post.To add to the list: I have spent the past week here http://www.conferencecenter.com/ And let me tell you: OMG!! DAMN this is the place to seize and hold for LONG term survival. The complex was built in the 1970s by Xerox (who sold most of it off during a downturn, late 80s) and the entire damn place is practically solid concrete, built into the hills, ample capacity for EVERYONE on this wiki plus friends & family; is impervius to 'raiders' (first you have to find it, then you have to try and take it) and I (for damn sure) would not EVER want to try and clear this place. This place puts certain bunkers and other locations I've been in to SHAME. It may not be 6 stories deep but that's not necessary. Lacking qualities: needs full perimeter fence and large enough area to clear for crops. Otherwise, THIS IS A TOP CHOICE Do you find this valuable? |
