"1. Rem 870, Mossberg 500, Benelli Nova/supernova. "Funny I had my hands on that benelli supernova.. I like it for the the fact its benelli, and I've never had a bad experience with it however, it feels a bit odd. And the price is right.. I'm more partial to the mossberg or the remington. I gotta agree with you on the glock comment, Its just stupidly simple. I have a SIG, 1911, and Glock, and the Glock is just an uncomplicated gun. Do you find this valuable? |

My bro has a nova, great gun. Especially the little button on the forearm that lets you eject the chambered round without loading a new one. Ive heard some issues with the safety, its kind of a complicated system, but it gives you more "safe" options. Also looks like it shoots plasma bursts or something. Seems like the supernova fixes most of the problems that the nova had. Anyone one ran across the old benelli tacticals? I think its like M1, M2, M3, and M4s. They look older and simple, Ive never seen one around. Also, anyone had experience with the stoeger 12 gauge SxS carriage guns? My roommate has been eyeing one. I gotta admit they look damn cool and the price isn't bad. Anyone fooled with one of these? Do you find this valuable? |

Coach guns are by nature extremely simple and reliable. I have a Chinese-made SxS model (not sure of brand/model), and I like it a lot. With a bit of reload practice, you can achieve a decent rate-of-fire. In a genuine SHTF/TEOTWAWKI/WROL scenario, this would quickly be modified into a sawed off pistol grip configuration. I submit that there is nothing deadlier for a close-quarters encounter. Do you find this valuable? |

Great looking "boom" stick looks even better shorter. . Do you find this valuable? |

I got my Mosin for $125, $25 FFL fee, $15 shipping, $60 for 440 rounds, and another $60 for the case and cleaning kit. I bought this on a college salary.

I like the mosin.. the price is right.. etc.. Interesting rifle, I guess you would get good bang for the buck.and I've put quite a bit of thought to it in the last few weeks. HOWEVER.... I'm not totally in love with some of the things about it: - Oddball ammo. Its just something else I would have to buy for my ammo stockpile. I dont think any other rifle shoots this cartridge. -Call me crazy but I would like to keep things consistent. .22LR/9MM/.45/.223/... etc.. you get the picture. I like common for a reason. -The Mosin to me is just fugly. I keep looking at it and its _still_ fugly to me. (fugly= fekking ugly). I guess I could modify to LJ's specs making a sportsterized rifle. -I have never shot a Mosin. So its uncharted waters for me. -I found a remington 700 in my price range in 308, I have plans on buying other rifles using this cartridge, CETME, HK, Sprinfield etc.. It just seems more ideal for me to go with the .308. So for me buying a Mosin, doesn't really give me alot of room to grow with... Something to think about before I buy a Mosin Nagant. "I shot a Mosin once. Read ONCE. It hurt. I have PTSD from it. LOLZ! Really though, it does take some getting use to. I think I spent maybe a total of 6 hrs with it on several ranges. It's fun to shoot. I am not a MASTER of the Mosin, but I can make it work. Do you find this valuable? |

Finally, I can contribute. *deep breath*:As stated all over the site, the Mosin is my baby, so I will avoid anything that might be affected by my bias. Which, sadly, means I shall only mention the other guns that use 7.62x54r rounds. *Degtyarev DP28 LMG *Romanian Dragunov PSL 54C *Pre-Nineties PKM models * and SVT-40 If I wasn't so attached to my Mosin (It was my second rifle ever) I would upgrade to the Dragunov. And for Freelancer: I remember the initial kick of the Mosin, Hurt like a mother- any how. But as with every weapon you get used to it, or lose all feeling in your shoulder. Recoil's tough but keep in mind Soviet women used it too. Calling the Mosin fugly just means you aren't MAN enough for her! j/kSeriously though, it's a tool, it doesn't have to be pretty. It just has to get the job done. Do you find this valuable? |

Here's what I'd say:Mossberg 500. As others have said, its one of the best pump shotguns ever made ($200.) 5 boxes of buckshot ($40.) Marlin model 60 in .22. Hold 15 rounds in a tube magazine, so no extra cost for mags ($160) Heritage Rough rider SA .22 revolver ($150.) 1 box 500 rounds .22 ($20) 1 chamber insert 12 gauge-.22 ($20.) 1 carpenter's hammer ($5) So, you get a rifle, shotgun, sidearm, and a melee weapon (along with ammo, and an adaptor that allows the shotgun to fire .22) Total cost: $595, within your +/-100 limit. Not too bad. Do you find this valuable? |

If you look around you can still get good guns on the cheap, I do well at auctions, flea markets and some small gun shows. Is a good idea to get the word out to friends that you buy guns too because some people have guns that just want to get rid of them. Some good deals I have gotten in the past couple years... A WWII S&W Victory .38 special for $100...Gun has some pitting on the outside but bore is fine and shoots great. I have lots of pistols and this was the one I choose to bring when I drove cross country a year or so ago. A Remignton model 11 12 ga. semi auto shotgun for $125. found it at a flea market up in Penn. Got it cheap because it had a small crack in the stock, I glued it and cut the barrel back to 18 inch...Fast great shooting shotgun. Year befor at the same flea market I bought a like new Mossberg 500 12 ga. for $100 Savage .22 automatic rifle at gun show for $50, same seller sold me a cut back side by side 12 ga, for $100 Enfield no. 4 .303 that had been sporterised $40 at gun auction. I'm in the process of making a carbine out of it very nice single shot 12 ga. for $15 In my experance you can get good guns at auctions for very cheap that have some cosmetic problems, sporterised, dirty, outside rust etc. Stll good user guns. Last month I picked up an ithaca double 12 and a Chicom Nagant rifle for $15 each at auction. that were like this Passed on many other cheap guns that I should have probably bought.....T Do you find this valuable? |
