you want a duckbill attatchment on the barrel to spread the shot into a horizontal line..that way you can cut their legs right off with one shot..they cant catch you if they cant run! Do you find this valuable?

"I'll bite. What the hell is a duckbill attachment? If I recall correctly, it was a muzzle attachment designed to compress the buckshot into a horizontal spread. Called a duckbill because of it's shape. Do you find this valuable? |

"If I recall correctly, it was a muzzle attachment designed to compress the buckshot into a horizontal spread. That sounds a little stupid. Wouldn't the force blow something up? Like the firearm? Do you find this valuable? |

"That sounds a little stupid. Wouldn't the force blow something up? Like the firearm?"Ah, now that I looked it up, it seems to be mostly external, with cutouts in the sides. http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//500/8311duckbill_2_.jpg Maybe this will help: http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1294553 http://www.warboats.org/stonerordnotes/Ithaca%20M37%20R4.html Do you find this valuable? |

"Really? Why did they stop using it?"I'll stick with my improved modified choke. I really don't see it "Cutting off any legs" but I believe it will work fine Do you find this valuable? |

Would you have to shoot without a shot cup? To make it spread out.

I talked to a buddy who has used one, the common misconception is that they literally make a totally flat shot pattern (like 6 feet wide half foot high), but they don't. You go from a standard round pattern to a slightly more oval pattern. I can't imagine it "cutting off" things any farther than a few feet away. And even then a regular shotty would do the same thing. It was primarily designed to offer a better chance of hitting your target. (Aim for center mass. If you're too high or low, you will still hit them in the face or knees. If you're off left to right the wider spread will still let you count a hit) Do you find this valuable? |

Now.... I suppose if you had one that actually made a flat pattern and you used some flechette rounds, you could cut something off.But this is me being hypothetical. I personally don't know too much about flechette rounds. Only that they have very good penetration potential and they fit a lot in the shell Do you find this valuable? |

It might give pause to consider that - while an interesting experiment - this device is not used by any military in the world presently. If it offered any significant advantage, I suggest it would still be in wide use.

"Really? Why did they stop using it?"I suppose the rectangular pattern had some advantages in a jungle, but today, the risk of collateral is pretty big. Not to mention, you need a fairly light kind of shot to make good use of it. Do you find this valuable? |

I'll stick with a regular pattern of 00 to the head. that way I know they wont be able to do anything at all.

Duckbills sound cool, but why not just get a Blunderbus barrel?
