Norinco SAS-12 Semi-automatic, 12 ga. box fed magazine
Sep 23 2009, 6:34 PM EDT
I bought a cheap Chinese shotgun called the SAS-12 (about 150 bucks) Similar to the one shown above, but it came with a 'regular' shotgun stock and brown fore grip, which I changed out to a pistol grip and sawed off the barrel to 18.5" with a muzzle break. What I loved about it was the box magazine. I'm not a fan of loading a shotgun 1-shell-at-a-time… But after I got the thing, I found you could NOT find magazines for it. Anywhere... So I made my own. 10rounds, and they fit in a standard M16/AR-15 magazine pouch. I'll try to post some pics of the magazines in my profile if anyone is interested. I think with a little ingenuity, these could fit in Mossy 500's and alike too! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

how do you intend to fit a clip in a mossberg 500, knox ind. had a magg-fed modification that went under the tube so it would operate the same way. if you could get a 500 to safely operate from a magazine id be very interestedas far as the norinco goes ill stick to a saiga and pay the extra money i havent heard good things about norinco shotguns, the pistols are good and the rifles are average and thats about it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. "Given that this post is nearly two years old, I doubt he'll respond." Haha! Doubt squelched. There were in fact few reliability issues TrenchCoat. I did sell the gun last year because I was tired of having to take it to the machine shop and mod the gun when I wanted a new stock or for grip. And given a real SHTF emergency, I like to know that I can get spare parts. So... now I have a 500. I have a system to fix a magazine to the Mossberg right under the feed port (as apposed to the tube) But I have yet to prototype it. Mostly I'm interested in the new Kel Tec KSG. 17 round, double tube feed! Sexiness. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Well, that shut me up.lol, no shutting up intended. (and here 3 months later, I definitely don't monitor this thread as much as I could be) Srwpk: I haven't tested my mossberg feeder. It's really more of a magazine that keeps the shell next to the feed port, and quickly feeds them into the tube. I'd love to see what kind of system you've come up with. Do you find this valuable? |

Just to add fuel to the fire, the Dominion Arms Grizzly is a Chinese/Norinco clone of the Rem870, and the Dominion Arms Grizzly-MAG is a clone of the Rem870 that has been adapted to use a box magazine feed. http://www.canadaammo.com/product.php?productid=281&cat=0&page=1 It is my understanding that these Grizzly's are close enough in manufacture to the Rem870 that most components (spare parts, stocks, fore ends, etc) are virtually interchangeable. It certainly speeds up reloads, but you've also got the added bulk of the magazines. With loose shells you can fit them virtually anywhere, even just carrying spares in convenient pockets.

"It certainly speeds up reloads, but you've also got the added bulk of the magazines. With loose shells you can fit them virtually anywhere, even just carrying spares in convenient pockets."Makes for a greater ammo capacity in a short barrel shotgun too, as capacity is no longer restricted by the length of an underbarrel tubular mag. "I was looking at those on that site, I'm interested but I'm not sure how reliable they would be"Well the supposedly have a lot of interchangeable parts with the Rem870, so even if it isn't reliable out of the box, one could always swap out any Chinese components that proved to be problematic for their American Made equivalents. That should improve things nicely. Do you find this valuable? |
