Professions We'll Need in a Post-Apocalyptic World - additions?

Consider the long-term usefulness of artisans and craftsman. We will need skills in areas such as leather working, basketry, pottery, paper- and candle making, weaving, etc. And artists may be as useful as entertainers in the long term (they also may be helpful in drawing maps, building plans, or keeping any type of visual record, etc).Yeah, I admit the arts are one of the only skills I have to offer! 2 out of 4 found this valuable. Skilled Farmers/Ranchers will probably be the most important trade in the long-term. Even with just a few, they can direct and teach unskilled laborers.Blacksmiths may play an important role, although a lot of the products they produce could potentially be scavenged. Techs/Engineers could be useful in a larger settlements to get some infrastructure started, such as irrigation/water and substainable power (not necessarily electricity). Do you find this valuable? |

the biggest thing with being a black smith.....if you have to many hammers and not enough pliers....well you just do a little smitthin and now you got pliers....this goes for all types of tools and weapons and even fire arms. try finding a trigger assembly pin for a '68 jc higgins shotty and you'll see where a good smith comes in

Welders with skill will be needed, as will doctors and mathematicians would make an excellent addition to any colony.

If you have 20 survivors and 1256 pounds of food, who do you think is going to do the math and figure out how long it can last depending on a persons nutrition needs. Mathematicians would be very handy to have in any group if you plan to colonize. 2 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |
