I agree that solar isn't efficient at all dollar's spent/ electricity produced though after tax credits (in my state at least) make solar panels almost free.

The triple-junction technique is one that I have been looking at for a while, because it is so ridiculous to me that if one panel gets shaded, the rest go to half production.

Sharp have been working on it for a few years now, as no doubt others have. I'm hoping it is going to be standard in panels from now on, until the next big breakthrough.
