Why do we join the ZSDW?
Nov 6 2009, 5:40 PM EST | Post edited: Nov 6 2009, 5:40 PM EST
no one has started a thread for this to the best of my knowledge, so i guess i will.

i guess the best way to start this thread is to say why i came here, and stayed.

i came here becuse, well, Science allows for **** wierder then world wide super rabies. and i guess that all myths/legends are based somewhat in fact...i guess i joined for the truth, and gleening whatever knowledge i may from this awsome site...1000+ posts later, i guess i stayed becuse of you guys, i may never meet any of you in RL, but some of you are the guys i talk most often too, other then my family and friends in town. That and a lot of you are very intellegent, some one comes to us with a 'oh ****' problem and we, as members of the ZSDW find out WTF is going down...more often then not its nothing...but every once in a while, something pops up that we cant quite explain...and we dig, and dig, and dig...until we find out WTF is going on...you must admit, some of us have probably learned more things here then in school/college/life...i mean, before i, at least, came here, i thought that a mall would be perfect place to weather out zombie invasion/global disaster. Now, if god forbid, SHTF and (not neccicarily zeds) i need to find a way to survive, i can draw on many of the things i learned here...sure, this site has zed defense and killing, but most of it is skills we would need if **** goes down and we need to fight for our survival..

well, i guess thats about it... how bout you guys, why'd you join, and why'd you stay?

I am obsessed with zombies, I want to learn things that many people on here probably know.

I also like the people, I was expecting to walk into a site ran by sugar crazed munchkins from hell that would just scare me off. Gladly I didnt find that.

Sorry if I dont make much sense, I can't think completely in detail at the moment since I am a few hours away from pulling a 24 hour awake day.

Why I showed up...the brilliant idea to google zombies came upon me and I found this wiki. :) So I joined because everyone else is/was as obsessed about it as I was, and my mom didn't want to hear anymore about me being terrified of runners getting me and the kids.

I stayed because I like it here. There are great people here from all walks of life and I've learned a lot from them...things I would never have dreamed up on my own.

I came here after taking a bunch of Z-survival tests online. Then, like Kinelta, I googled "zombies" and this came up. I love all things zombie, especially in regards to weapons, gear, and defensive locations. All in all, a really fun site. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I came here after watching Dawn of the Dead on cable and was trying to find other zombie movies to watch because the whole idea facinated me.

I found this site and found myself coming here often to read people's posts. Then one day someone was posting mis-information as fact and everyone was eating it up. I joined to set this guy straight and got chewed up and spit back out.

Thing was he was right and I was wrong. He could have rode me hard and made a fool of me but he didn't and welcomed me to the site.

That RU was DevilNuts and since I've been here I've learned from many members whom I respect and I always enjoy visiting with all you messed up crazy MFers. :-D

Okay, I am back and will do non exhausted version. (Oh by the way, Thanks Timber. I have been called a crazy mf-er before, and I swear in all truth...its the greatest compliment I ever get ^_^)

I have never been the type to just say "Thats fictional, its impossible, you're a moron if you believe otherwise." I have always had a wild imagination, and I have always been fascinated with the supernatural.

As a writer of supernatural themed fiction at times, I have to sit down and say

"What makes this thing tick? What makes a werewolf turn and how does their body handle it? Is it biological or magical? If its magical can a human become a werewolf by choice without being bitten, by a spell of some sort, maybe a potion?" Etc

You get the idea...now that I think of it, that is eerily similar to zombies. Anyway, I would research, and research, and research the topic. At times I would become completely involved with something, I would live, breath, hear, and only see whatever I was researching until I felt I had achieved the knowledge I wished to.

Now, years ago I had my first zombie media: Resident evil 2. I was young so I had no idea what the plot was besides a bunch of zombies and some random dude handing me a shotgun/bowgun (Depends on if you play as Leon or Claire.).

I also played resident evil Code: veronica X when I was just a bit older.

I got resident evil 4 a year or two ago, I believe. Simply for the reason that it had Leon in it, was in the resident evil series, it was on the ps2, and my father talked me into it. I loved the game, and gained a love for zombies even though it had nothing to do with zombies. I also loved the memories of the zombies from the previous two games I had played.

I guess that started my zombie fascination, I couldn't get enough of zombies. I then decided “Hey, I'll write a resident evil fan-fiction!” I submerged myself in resident evil and other zombie stuff to get a feel for it and knowledge of the plot, never quite got out of it I guess.

The RE series even gave a reason for why the virus brought corpses alive and of course why it turned people to zombies. Little did I know that other series did the same thing, but oh well.

I always thought after that, and I still do, that the zombies are coming and I need to be prepared if I want to live. I made a plan out, took lots of zombie survival tests, and asked others opinions of my ideas.

My parents are a little tired of my zombie obsession, and so is just about everybody in the other website I hang arounds chat. I don't remember exactly how I found this site, but I do remember that I lurked for a while before making an account. I think I made one simply for the fact that it was a community talking about zombies.

I lurked for a while, before taking a break for like a month. Then I came back and decided that I wanted to at least try to become more known around here. Here I am, took a while to realize that sending noob messages to the more veteran members was definitively not a good idea.

(Lol Timber, me and you have something in common. The noobiest message I sent was to DevilNuts)

Although I have to say, it did teach me how to get past the massive wall of text and how to post.

I am just happy that I didn't find this site sooner, lately (even before I started trying to get more widely known on here) I have been trying to improve my grammar. And those quizzes/original plans used up the whole wall-mart plan thing. (I hope)

Funny thing is, I am the weapons/combat/zombie guru on that other websites chat. On here I'm the nub that doesn't know anything that no one else doesn't already know, for some reason I just think that sudden change is funny.

Hope I did not put too much useless info in the posts, Either way. Food is calling my name, Later.

(Edit: Whoops, I thought the OP also asked how we got into zombies. I guess I cant see good today, Lol.)

(Edit, Edit: I also got on here, because of the conspiracy theorist in me that believes oneday, somehow, the S is going to HTF and I need to be prepared for all scenarios)

-.- Okay, Now I and everyone else probably is tired of me editing this. Okay, maybe not that the zombies ARE coming but that it is very possible that they could exist.

Got into zombies a few years back after watching Dawn of the Dead at my buddy's house. After a few brews, some fried chicken and two entire arsenals (both his and my own) getting cleaned and prepped, I was hooked to zombie survivalism. Bought the ZSG, and the hook was set permanently.

I joined this site back in June of '08 because I was working a desk job at MetLife, had access to the internet and had LOTS of time to kill while filing auto and home claims. Yes, I'd literally browse this site (and Stryker's UDSA site) while people were crying on the phone about how their Escalade got smashed or because their home burned down, or because their dog jumped into the fireplace (yes, this happened.) Sounds insensitive, but after working there for a while you become pretty hardened to that sort of thing, and it becomes just another claim. Many of the articles I have written were done during off time between calls. I left for a while because our filtering software at work starting blocking the site, probably because everyone in my office started visiting the site after I brought a copy of World War Z to work. We used to discuss zombie stuff during our breaks at work.

Came back right during the AJR incident, when it was getting bad. Took another break after placing my foot firmly in my mouth and my head up my own arse with SkipNChurch, but things were sorted out. Came back, and the story continues to now (with a few month long breaks in between to sort my own life situation out.)

The reason I stuck around and continue to do so is because I really started to fall in love with the site and the community here is dynamic and interesting. I visit this site more than any other (barring maybe google) and while sometimes I'm much to busy to contribute I always find my way back to the threads.

I joined this site because I hate Zombies.

No no... you read that right. I hate Zombies.

Vampires & Werewolves have their own, for a lack of a better term, romance to them.

I'd love to be a Werewolf, I think Vampires are Gay... Mind you, that's my Opinion & opinion only.

Zombies? They scared the bejesus out of me when I was about 5. My brother made me watch 'Return of the Living Dead'... I couldn't sleep for years. No, not an exageration.... years. Every sound was 'Tarman' wanting my brains.

Years went by, I became less scared of Horror movies & more into things like Guns, Blades, etc... and I became more confident in being alone in the dark.

A few years ago, I had a very real & very scary nightmare. I was in a world not unlike WWZ, but the Zombies were different... it was more than shambling & less then running... but they came after me. I kid you not, I woke up screaming & covered in sweat... my family thought I was having an Iraq War flashback.

I never had an Iraq War flashback, but when I told my brother about the dream he brought up "Return of the Living Dead" & when we watched it over 25 years ago... we watched it again that night.

I went online & started looking up what Zombies meant in dreams...

I kept looking for YEARS what my dream meant just because of the fact that the dream was SO REAL to me it terrified me.

So I went to www.google.com and typed these words in:
Zombie
Defense
Dream
Survive

I found this site & made an account the next day.

So here I am. I've been invited to other sites & such but like LJ126 said... it's this little corner of the www that I find to be home.

Well lets see, I started off when I was little, Dad teaching me to shoot and what not. And ever since I've loved to find things perfect to shoot, but years back when I first played an upcoming demo of Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddlers Green at midnight in my friends den, with my 2 good friends.. Well, since then I've been convinced that zombies are indeed a worthy thing to waste lead on.. So eventually I came here.

Me and a few friends of mine had joked around for years about getting ready for z-day. So we started preparing for it(we treated it like a metaphor for WTSHTF, and I still do, but ya know prepare for the worst, hope for the best) Then a couple of years ago I read Max Brooks, I liked what I had done so far, but felt i could do more. A few weeks ago I decided to look on the Internet for info, on theories about zombies(I know why didn't i try that first, well I'm old fashioned.... well old anyway) this site came up. I liked what i saw, and started reading. A week or two later I put my $.02 in, got ripped a new one. I liked that I had found folks who would tell me like it is, but listen on things I knew. So here I am among my fellow zed-heads. Do you find this valuable?

Personally, I stumbled onto this site by pure accident while just messing around on Google. I've been a fan of zombies from the cradle, probably due to playing the original (and best) Resident Evils as a young child. And this site immediately grabbed my attention.
