Downfall of gas
Nov 17 2009, 4:31 PM EST
gas will go after 6 months to a year, after that an engine won't run on it, though gas live can be extended by around 6 months by using chemicals like Sta-bil. It will still burn though. Diseal might last longer, and you can run diesals off vegtable oil and stuff. The best long term solution is to make a gas turbine from car turbo-chargers because a turbine will run off almost any flammable liquid.

"no i'm pretty sure its around 18 monthsOnly if the stabilisers have been added. Otherwise, it does degrade quite quickly. Do you find this valuable? |

"I am assuming you have never had to do maintenance on a turbine engine."who hasn't? The best long term solution is to encourage the development of alternative fuels. I am a big fan of the algae stuff. hydrogen is nice too. The more alternatives we have the easier it is to find one that suits you conditions. Go Green Energy! 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Your facts are based oh partial falsehoods. The shelf life of gasoline varies greatly on its storage conditions. There have been instances of gasoline sitting in a well sealed jerrycan for almost a decade without treatment. The owner ran it through a coffee filter and then put it in his lawn mower. Which ran perfectly.http://www.alpharubicon.com/altenergy/gaslifepal.htm It just goes to show you, it depends on alot of different factors. When that day finally comes though, wood gas and methane would probably be the most practical fuel sources for vehicles. Wood Gas is another alternative, and it requires no modification to most engines. Do you find this valuable? |

Which ran perfectly.A lawnmower engine in not even close to the same kind of precision needed in a modern engine. Whilst I will agree that good storage will increase the lifespan dramatically, I must state that the hydrocarbon chains in gasoline do begin breaking down almost immediately. Ironically, it is the older, less "fuel efficient" cars that will be more valuable post-Z day, almost because of the inefficiency. They are more tolerant of crappy fuel, and so will be able to make use of these degraded stocks. I believe StrykerPez or FreeLancer47 have indentified a vehicle that can run on almost any fuel, including used motor oil. That might be the best way to go. Do you find this valuable? |

"I have video or a air powered go cart I will be putting up soon .Right now I am in the middle of my 4 cylinder build. But the go cart works like a charm."It'd be sweet to have one powered by a cyrogenic O2 tank, you'd get fairly constant pressure and much more volume out of each tank. Not much use post zday, but still fun for the time being. Do you find this valuable? |

Well the 4 cylinder build I am in the middle of right now has a air compressor an tank. Its a 50 gallon tank I can put around 300 psi safely in it. The best part is while the car is moving the belt driven compressor is pumping the system up. Do you find this valuable? |

Anywhere you have sugar/starch, water, and yeast (and time, and labor), you can make ethanol. For a flex-fuel vehicle that reduces your gasoline requirement by 85%, which is handy if nobody's making it anymore. I don't recommend making it now, because it's illegal. But come Z-day nobody's gonna be checking for your permit...

In fact it is already causing food shortage. food is sacred in a survival situation. Do you find this valuable? |

"That requires you to take a source of nutrients and turn it into fuel. The problem with most "biofuels" today. In fact it is already causing food shortage.Peak Food. *Shudder* "At the end of 1999 according to the USDA, there was 116 days worth of world surplus food. By the end of April 2007, the level had dropped significantly to 53 days, and by March 2008, to 50 days. Disturbingly, politicians worry when the level drops to 60 days because a 60-day supply is the amount required to fill world "food pipelines". If the trend continues, as is expected, as early as 2011 and as late as 2015, there could be little in the way of world food reserves left. With such shortages, even if some commodities are still available for import, food is likely to be very expensive. The world may soon have a situation of Peak Food." taken from johnjeavons.info Do you find this valuable? |
