Depends.

I've had some last for a really long time - longer than I could hold without gloves because its super hot. I've had other similar ones that would consume all of their fuel in a minute or two. I doubt one would sustain a burn for more than 10 minutes though, if I had to guess.

Zippo would be the detonator of the trap.
Raiders are attacking in few minutes, you pour gasoline all over the place and place burning zippo so that it will light the gasoline(fumes) and blow up the place.

Very untrustworthy trap, temperature would affect the rate at which the petrol would eveporate... might take ten minutes, might go off as soon as you strike the zippo, might not go off at all(though that's not as likely).

Just light it manually. More reliable. Do you find this valuable?

I agree... even a switch that creates a spark at a distance. Don't plan anything more than an accelerated fire, unless it's sealed very tight the fumes won't build up enough for an explosion.
>EDIT< plan for god knows what could happen, even though it'll probably just burn

If you need that particular trap for some reason, there's always a tea candle. Although, as has been stated, that particular trap probably wouldn't work out as planned.

If you had functioning natural gas lines and an idea of what you were doing, you might be able to do similarly by breaking one or more of the gas inlet pipes and setting a candle on your way the feck out, but that's hazardous and unpredictable.

You could take a propane tank (if you're willing to blow the place up, I assume that this sort of stuff is deemed lost), open the outlet, run like hell, set up a candle and run like hell again. This is slightly less unpredictable, seeing as you can regulate how quickly it comes out, but still hazardous. What if there's a draft you hadn't noticed, for one thing; the gas may take forever to get to the flame, or may be there before you even light the candle up.

Anyway, those are a couple of suggestions on similar traps, and bear in mind that I'm not responsible for how you use this info, nor is the wiki. (always have to stick this stuff in there; sorry)

Generally, though, traps that rely on some sort of vapour behaving properly are just too unpredictable to be particularly wise choices outside of books or movies.

This is the only reason I didn't answer... Best advice, find an improvised explosives hand book from a military agency( older ones are declassified, but hard to find in the US because of 9/11). If your gonna play with fire, at least have the instruction manual.

Better than having some fuel and a lighter? Nope.
