favourite melee weapon?

Whats your favourite melee weapon to use. I've been training with a switchknife but my favourite is a crowbar. it's fairly lightweight, but if you swing it hard enough it can pack one powerful blow. 28  out of 34 found this valuable. Do you?

My favorite melee weapon would probably be the katana. One slice, one kill. 9  out of 37 found this valuable. Do you?

My japanese naginata just recently got shipped here and I'm lovin the hell out of it. It need a bit more sharpening for my liking but it will hack limps none the less. It's about 6 feet so it is out side of arms length. It stabs, slices, and is a hell of a lot of fun to wield. 8  out of 13 found this valuable. Do you?

"Base.Ball.Bat.

Only if you want to repeatedly hit it in the head until the damage finally smashes the brain enough to destroy it and then there will be lots of splatter and blood leakage that will end up all over the place and hopefully not in your mouth or eyes, not even a tiny dribble or else you're infected. I'll take an icepick with one solid pierce through the back of the head and minimal leakage over a baseball bat any day.

It honestly doesn't take multiple hits. While this is fairly sketchy evidence, on Deadliest warrior mafia vs. Yakuza episode, they tested the effectiveness of the baseball bat, and it beat a lot of other melee weapons by a long shot. There was a reason thew mafia used it so much. Spatter would be a problem however, however, wouldn't a zombies blood have congealed by now.
Ice pick would also be effective, but is extremely close range, and I don't like putting my hand close enough to bite.

it is sketchy evidence because on deadliest warrior they tested on a pigs back, not a zombie brain which isn't fully functional meaning only hitting the functional part of the brain will destroy it. Also, a fresh body will have non congealed blood, and even so, the blood and brain mash would fly regardless. It's just too dangerous. And yes an ice pick is an extremely short range weapon but provides very little leakage and is effective. That's why I chose a naginata for my main melee weapon.

Ah, but it wasn't tested on a pigs back, but on a ballistics gel duplicate of the human body. It essentially shatter the brain into pieces and even dented their metal bar in the middle. In any case, it was used rather mainstream by the Italian mafia, and if it took several blows to crack a skull open, I doubt they would have used it at all.

Are you big enough that one blow will smash open the skull and shatter the brain?

"My favorite melee weapon would probably be the katana. One slice, one kill."
unless you happen to be one of the few people who actually have a battle ready (and tested) katanas in the world, as well as one of the even fewer who have actual training in the use of a katana, i would have to say that you are royally screwed if you think that you can kill a zombie with a katana. it was built for speed and elegance, not power. true, masters with a katana were known for being able to take limbs off of their opponents, but those are people who have trained with their weapon of choice for twenty years plus.

My favorite would have to be a pitchfork.

It would be utilized best with a partner armed with a wood axe. One pins 'em down the other finishes 'em off.

Its not perfect because you need a second person to get the job done. However it saves you years of practice with a very expensive katana.

I agree with timber's tactic but Substitue a boarspear and warhammer and add a second spearman to ensure the zed is pinned. My personal melee combo is Coldsteel brand warhammer and a 9" buckershield. The buckler is completely capable of doling out a compression skull fracture. however Im going to work up something akin to a double ended trench spike that I can also use in the buckler hand for additional flexibility. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. I like anything one-handed and blunt paired with my 36" round shield. Made of good old fashioned oak planks, It will smash a skull easily. I have a flanged mace, and a shortsword depending on the use. Mace for zeds, sword for raider.

Blunt force trauma don't usually cause splatter on the first hit, it doesn't necessarily break the skin, even when it destroys what's underneath. Slashing damage can, with a sweeping blow it will open the skin and pull some fluid with it, open a major vessel and it can lead to a bit of splatter, Honestly it usually takes mutiple hits to platter or spary any fluids.

I don't claim to be an expert, but I do see alot of dead bodies. Mostly from misadventure and murder cases.
