Fire extinguishers anyone?
Dec 11 2009, 8:08 PM EST
Mkay. So (everyone get ready for another rant from me :]) I have been thinking that, because (i have read in another thread called Real World Zombie Biology) the infection will probably happen in a laboratory (thanks Kinelta) and as the likelihood of this happening are slim, but who knows it could already have happened and the government is playing it close to the chest (area 51 possibly?) so what im getting at is that an outbreak could happen at anytime without our knowing it, what if we have ordered weapons or the closest supplier is out of stock. in a particular weapon, couldn't your household fire extinguisher work as a possible weapon? I believe there is a law in place or a public policy that says you must have one in your domocile, that or its just common sense. either way most people are bound to have one lying around they spray a foam that could possibly clog small tubes and holes. Again you might all think that what im saying is irrelevant but its kind of difficult to explain, give me a little leeway. A fire extinguisher could be used as a useful bludgeoning device for breaking zombie skulls. If it happens to be full. you could spray it in the face of a zombie, thus clogging the ears, nose, filling the mouth ( open to allow for that droning moan) and cover the eyes. Thus blinding the zombie. it is highly unlikely that this would happen en masse but for defending a home for a short period or getting away ( i realize that most fire extinguishers are pretty heavy and not the best idea for getaways) when one is attacked by at most three zombies. Depending on the skill level or intelligence of the wielder maybe more. Please ask specific questions so i can clarify.

What type of extinguisher? Water, foam, co2, powder?Little test for you: find an extinguisher you think would be suitable, and then carry it with you everywhere you go for a day. See how tired you get. Do you find this valuable? |

"What type of extinguisher? Water, foam, co2, powder? If you had read my whole first post on this subject, I acknowledged that it would difficult to use in a get away, I merely meant for it to be used as a kind of last resort weapon or if there are no other options, not as a primary weapon. And of course it would be foam. Or that would be the best thing because co2, powder, and water have absolutely no effect on zeds. If sprayed in the face with hardening fire extinguisher foam this would blind them completely, who knows what would happen if a zed was entirely blinded by this. Would it melt down? possibly. So foam. Do you find this valuable? |

As for a weapon of last resort, well any blunt or sharp object within reach is worth it. But the whole point of the site is preparation. Sure if you get caught somewhere outside and most of your weapons are at home, then you will need to improvise until you get back there, or to your BOL. But some people carry at least one kind of weapon with them all the time, or have it in their car. (Note, weapon. Not gun, not knife, but weapon) With preparation, and by keeping an eye on the news, you shouldn't get caught short. Do you find this valuable? |

What would the zombie do? go rampaging and hit like crazy or jsut stop dead? if it stopped dead that fire extinguisher would make a nice connection with that zombies head. That is if it was a lone zed. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Halon and Purple K are pretty nasty fire extinguising agents. Deadly against humans, not likely against Zack though

Okay, regardless of what else you say to support yourself from your first post, it's unlikely that you'll convince people that the fire extinguisher would be a good last ditch weapon. I'll support the opposite crowd for the same reasons.
