Reloading shells?
Dec 13 2009, 12:19 AM EST
I was wondering if there was any way to reload a normal shotgun shell, and if so, how many times can it be done?Do you find this valuable?

You can reload regular shotgun shells just as much as regular bullets. The brass behaves the same. The plastic may need replacing after a while due to tearing or degradation. I've seen paper shells used but they seem to jam more.

"You can reload regular shotgun shells just as much as regular bullets. The brass behaves the same. The plastic may need replacing after a while due to tearing or degradation. right, but if you keep your ammo can dehumidified, they'll be fine...until you need to use them. so I guess in the long run, paper isn't a good idea.

Yes shotgun shells can be reloaded. Usually you can get about ten reloads out of a shell before the folds in the plastic degrade far enough to cause crimping ( the folding over of the mouth) problems and you start to get buldging of the base. back in the 1970s and 80s my father and I shot trap and sheet competatively. Reloading our shells was the only way we could aford the massive amounts of ammo we went through. You can buy reloading supplies from USA Midway, and many of the outdoorsman type stores like Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops
