The sword of the Zombocaliptic future
Dec 16 2009, 2:25 AM EST | Post edited: Dec 16 2009, 2:25 AM EST
I have been wondering: After Z-day, when survivors have establishe their forts and began rebuilding, weapons will be most likely be geared especifically towards zombie-killing (decapitating/chopping skulls). What would these blades of the zombocalipse look like?

The website http://www.zombietools.net/ has has some nice-looking (but of dobutful usefulness) swords.
Will they look like what post-zday swordsmiths will make? Post your ideas, comments and the like.
(Also, if someone has one of those swords, could you give a little review? To see if they are worth it)

They certainly look the part. Be good to know if anyone has one, and if it is more than just furniture. Do you find this valuable?

Well, they're made of 5160 Spring Steel with full tang machined aluminum handles, so yeah, I'd say they're pretty damn tough.

The black KYDEX sheaths would also be pretty tough.

Upside is the steel blades are tougher than stainless. Downside, they require plenty of care.

These swords seem sturdy, attractive, and--expensive.

The person running this business has tapped a pretty lucrative market.

Business owner may want to consider if goth subculture is an ideal target demographic for maximized sales.

Expensive? Almost all of them are under $400.

Since we're on the sword subject, what would be a good replacement for a human/zombie head for test cutting? Do you find this valuable?

Zombie food - don't tell me she would be able to chop of all of their heads or enough limbs in time if she engaged them.

Make sure to be wearing your gloves or gauntlets ... :-)

Any animal that has a full cranium.

Think Pig.

A good start for training on this? Wrap a Watermelon in Duct Tape... then strike.

Nice choices good sir!

I'm thinking of the 'Warrior' Series of Katana blades by Cold Steel.

Of course, I'm thinking of *Shameless Plug* getting deathseekerakodo of making me a blade that would be a Love Child between a Katana & Cutlass...

Realisticaly speaking I think it would make more sense to instead of loading yourself up with something like a sword to just carry some more ammo and magazines.
Maybe a Machete, I have a thick British WWII one I like but it can be used as a tool as well as a weapon I suppose.

After saying this I do collect antique swords and have a good many, mostly US and antique Japanese ones. Is interesting thinking about using one,... I'm sure they would work as good as they did back when they were being used befor Firearms made them obsolete.
...I used to do blacksmith work and am sort of thinking about making myself a short sword / machete just for the heck of it though.....T

if were just sticking to swords then i would have to say that some form of English longsword would probably be most preferable in a zed outbreak. a bastard sword would be a very good choice. the claymore would be pushing it. those things are not easily wielded and were meant to hack through armor and take down cavalry, and i have yet to ever hear of mounted armored zombies (yet).

the Japanese katana i wouldn't recommend. it was designed with slashing and cutting in mind, not cleaving. true it was known to be able to take off limbs with a single cut, but those are stories of masters of the katana, people who had trained with it for 15 years or more. this kind of training only a few hundred people in the world can claim and hold to.

one weapon that i think needs special mention is the Chinese podao. it was originally designed for infantry to be able to take down cavalry by slicing the legs off horses that went by, but it was also used against spear men because of its range and speed. power, speed, easy to use.

daddy like.

Nice blade.

But I prefer this.

I've been trying to modify the blade into a hookish shape and it ate 3 of my Drummel's cutting wheels.

Well this will be my first post, I like the Cold Steel Chinese WarSword, if you look it up on the net you will see why, it is an extrordinarily fast and brutal sword with incredible leverage for its size. It is the Little Brother to the Podao, mentioned by Sega Rihdan. It is a copy of the Chinese Dadao Sword used by chinese troops in the second world war. But all that said, Would a sword be the best idea? It would require a fair amount of training, and physical fitness. The other point I would bring forth for consideration is possible spread if infection from body fluids, are decapatated Zombies sprayers? I would appreciate some input from the site veterans. Why bother when a machete has more use in non-combat roles?
