My mother is making BOBs and needs a knife to put in. We are looking at this one.http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Soldier-Knife-Standard/dp/B001RL7OPU/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1261257133&sr=8-11 Is this a good choice for general use? I have plenty of fixed-blade knives so those can be added later but for general use would this work? Anyone with personal knowlege on it? Do you find this valuable? |

"My mother is making BOBs and needs a knife to put in. We are looking at this one. Not a personal knowledge but it looks pretty good to me, then again I am the knife noob. I am looking for a good hunting and survival knife. I am looking at this one: http://sogknives.com/store/M37.html A place near my house is selling it for 54.94 so price isn't a bad factor. This will be my second fixed blade knife, and the first of which I am researching and putting a bit of money into. I am just wondering if its too small or if anyone has any gripes with it, or know any better ones that won't make me go broke. I am thinking of getting a machete for possible combat and long range usage, like GRAPHIC CONTENT! GRAPHIC CONTENT! GRAPHIC CONTENT! GRAPHIC CONTENT! if I need to slit an animal I brought downs throat, but they are still kicking. Some of them have pretty good sized hornes, or can hoof you, so a short knife isn't going to do very much. NOT GRAPHIC CONTENT ANYMORE! NOT GRAPHIC CONTENT ANYMORE! Anybody got any gripes about the kukri or anything? Should I go with the longer latin machete? Does anybody got any other recomendations? I know I started a threat for this question, but I figured I would put it here as well to get a bit of last minute knowledge. Do you find this valuable? |

I skimmed over the page, and think that some subsections are missing; in particular, "fixed blade" under "knife types". Did you go over types of steel as well?

"I skimmed over the page, and think that some subsections are missing; in particular, "fixed blade" under "knife types". Did you go over types of steel as well?"Yes I did. But the page has been altered so it might be lost. The steels while important are too numerous and would require frequent updating. Do you find this valuable? |

"My mother is making BOBs and needs a knife to put in. We are looking at this one.It would be a good supplement to a larger fixed blade. It's nice having a smaller blade for finer work and having the tools as well . If you wanted something slightly larger the cold steel kudu folder or the slightly more expensive pocket bushman would be a good choice as well. Do you find this valuable? |

"SOG makes solid knives and I've read good things about the seal pup, personally though the blade does seem a little short. something with a blade around 8" would be a bit better. Personally If an animal is still kicking I would just wait it out rather than approach it. So many things could go wrong in a situation like that. If you want a longer blade for North America then I would go with the a bolo styled machete, you want a tougher blade. Do you find this valuable? |

"My mother is making BOBs and needs a knife to put in. We are looking at this one.I personally would not choose this one. i am not a fan of serrated blades they are a pain in the ass to sharpen and that is something you might need to think about in a long term survival situation. edit: quoted wrong post lol Do you find this valuable? |

"SOG makes great knives and i too have heard nothing bad about the seal pup. but i like this one better for hunting and cleaning game. It has a longer blade and is a bit cheaper too. http://sogknives.com/store/FX-01.html Do you find this valuable? |
