LJ:Its not about "the last word"...i'm not 12...and Ill be the judge of what I "know". "If you can afford better, get it, but if you can't... there's always Walmart." - this statement only supports my view. to those that are worried about the amount of stuff on the list: clearly, there is a "fantastical" view here...as the topic is fiction. but to see it more rationally, I have not yet revealed my list of vehicles, or my list of suggested crew...therefore, making it impossible for any assumptions on travel. I'm growing tired of people not reading the full text and/or not understanding the "progress" of my blog. talk a gander at Max Brook's 'Zombie Survival Guide' and tell me that he suggests too much "crap" to carry. You can't, because if you read the entire book, you will know that the accommodations for such items, their necessity and use, combined with the entertainment value, offer room for no such view. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. "LJ:What are you talking about? You said that we should avoid cheap walmart tee shirts because they're inferior, and have made an effort to make everyone who shops there look like an idiot. Now you're recanting on that? Can you see why some folks MIGHT be offended by your blanket statements about Walmart shoppers? We're not all dumb rednecks. Now you're talking down to folks about the ZSG, insinuating that those who commented on your post haven't read the whole thing, or implying that we're incapable of understanding your blog, as if its written using words that are too big. Wow, you're an elitist dick and you're making friends fast, especially by picking a pissing match with me - and not that I'm waving this badge in your face, but I'm a site moderator here at the ZSDW and I'm not going to allow you to insult the members of this site. PS - I'm normally a very easy person to get along with but coming in and spitting on the floor doesn't exactly make me or the rest of the volunteer staff happy. Please consider that maybe your blog doesn't adequately describe your intentions, or that you've possibly failed to do a better job at it here in the ZSDW threads. I'm done picking sh!t with the chickens for today. Maybe you should remember that people don't like being talked to like idiots, and you've done that the entire time you've been here 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Now you're recanting on that?perhaps you are reading too far into things. i don't recall saying anything about all walmart shoppers being dumb rednecks. I've also never talked down about the ZSG...but rather, used it as support to the amount of stuff in my list. If you were a bit less obtuse and more open to what i'm actually saying, you will find that we don't dissagree on much here. if you would like to shove some more words in my mouth, feel free...but keep in mind that i will continue to "spit" them right back out at you. "RyanRydell: Post #9 and #11"Some of us don't like dropping big bucks on beater clothing. My clothes get scorched, sliced, torn, split, and shredded...on a good day. I suspect it'll be the same in any SHTF scenario. With that thought in mind what incentive is there to spend lots of money on one article of high-end clothing when I can purchase multiple peices of "inferior"clothing for much cheaper? I COULD drop $800 (minimum) for a no-frills top-quality Jay Fisher knife...or I can pay rent and settle for something of lesser quality. As to getting what you pay for I disagree. A $20 Cold Steel Two-Handed Bush Machete gives the purchaser a great quality tool for a very cheap price. Where as a pair of jeans with holes in them sells for twice the price of a pair of non-holy jeans. You say buy for quality? I say you should try living like a worker instead of a bag. Buying some really expensive underwear that makes your sh!t smell like fresh-baked cinnamon rolls (compliment to the person who gets the reference). Or paying your rent. Pick one :P 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I've also never talked down about the ZSG...but rather, used it as support to the amount of stuff in my list.the ZSG is a humor book 90% of what max brooks says is common sense or false (i.e. he state that flamethrowers are illegal and .22lr rounds will "bounce around inside a persons head both statments are incorect) you can't use it to back your ideas it's a humor book and should be taken as such. a humor book is not "support" and what are you exactly saying because so far you have only (except for the first post) been fighting with people. and stop trying to get the last word in and then tell us to get back on topic. i will stay out of the fight about walmart i have a personal grugde against walmart that has nothing what so ever to do with the quality of stuff they sell. The ZSDW is not only about zombies. It is mainly about survival of any and all situations. We just use zombies as a base to discuss the ideas, equipment, supplies, and tactics of surviving a major event. You should check out some better survival resources, like the SAS manual, U.S. Army or Marine survival manual, or many other books that are made by experts with real knowledge, experience, and information. Many of the members here are well read and experienced in the arts of survival. We are here to discuss such information, learn new skills and ideas, and to teach what we know about. "You haven't been on here much have you?Yeah, I'm pretty new and haven't really had much time to surf through all of the stuff on this site yet. I managed to escape from a place full of kids who play too much Left4Dead and RE, or have seen some of the remade/new zombie movies and think that's how things go down, so you'll have to excuse me. I apologize. ZSG was ok, WWZ was awful; only time i've ever returned a book to Barnes & Noble. Do you find this valuable? |

Carnack:I know what you mean. I personally loathe stores like Abercrombie & Fitch. Please don't assume that I'm a stuck up prick just because I don't like Wal-Mart. The entire reason this conversation started was because I suggested that buying T-Shirts from Wal-Mart wasn't a great idea...IMO. Based on quality alone, I feel that there are much better options out there for survival clothing. Again...for those that want to poke fun at my list...the "zombie killer t-shirt" is for fun. Just a joke, not legit, you know...for entertainment...the entire reason any of us choose a Zombie site for survival tips rather than a survival site. if people would care to see the complete version of my list with photos and explanations of each item, the site is: ryanrydell.blogspot.com Do you find this valuable? |

"You know, for someone who's doing something for a joke, you sure are getting pretty defensive. "thats because it was the source of all this talk about Wal-Mart. I just want everyone to understand the intent. If not, i'm afraid that talk in this thread may continue downward. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I shop a good bit at Walmart, I do most of my Grocery shopping there and at the Dollar store and save lots of money over buying the same food at a regular grocery. Also buy alot of .22 ammo at Walmart which is about the cheapest place to buy it that I have found I don't buy any clothing at Walmart because I buy most of mine at Thrift shops such as Goodwill and Salvation Army and at the flea market. I only buy quality "Name" brand stuff that is in Excellent condition. Often lots there shows no signs of ever being worn. ... I'm wearing a pair of Bellieville Boots that retail for about $150 that I paid $10 for and they still had the original tags still. My pants are Filson tin cloth hunting pants that probably go for around $75...Church Thrift shop buy for $4.00, .Pendleton shirt for $3 and a thick LL Bean Wool sweater that cost me $4. My Coat is a Carhart that I got at the flea market for $5 I cant imagine buying stuff like this new in a store...why would you? I stop at many thrift stores and you never know what you will find, I buy lots of stuff to resell and have done very well with things like designer clothing , shoes nd purses. Sometimes you will find good military items to. Best was a WWII US Camo overalls [Lizard suit ] , paid $8 and sold for almost $1,000 ! Remember the money you save or make you can use toward other gear you need... 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Indeed. While I see errors in both, notably the guide, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Brook's work.I'm not much of a fan, but i read it all and have a copy of it somewhere (My former team chief bought me a copy for my birthday) I think maybe it over-generalized people a bit too much for my liking; I got more and more angry the further I got into the book.
