What Weaponery Will Your Family Have?
Jan 21 2010, 2:09 PM EST
This thread is to get an idea of what our family, that will be with your group will have and use. It is also to so you can look at what you post and see if there are any flaws in choices, or if your group should add or subtract weapons. This should be an educational exercise to evaluate the strength's and weaknesses of our choices and to get suggestions from others to fill the gaps. We have had countless threads on what we as individuals would carry, but what about wives, girlfriends, children, parents, other family members, This is a realistic thread, so please no wish list. I'm sure he either means a Thompson submachine gun, or a variant of the M1 carbine. Or maybe she has a tank, I don't know.

How F*%*ing AWSOME would an M1A1 parked on the front lawn look!!! HELL YES, I’d sit in it and turn on turret power and just snap in on traffic as it went by! I would drive that into town to Wal-Mart! Sorry all my road rage fantasies. Seriously I’d share out weapons, ammo and other supplies with anyone I knew that would be an asset to have with me but women and children would carry ammo and supply heavy. Would rather they be loading me fresh mags and handing them up as I needed them then to have firearms or knives they could accidently hurt themselves or someone else would. There would be time for teaching the necessary skills and administer tests to see if they can perform to standard. The other side to all of this is how much weight can they carry? If they are already under the weight of hygiene and medical supply (everyone should have their own) plus perhaps a change of socks, shirt and underwire plus a days worth of food and water how much more will they be able to carry for just a mile or two let alone from town to your BOL?

Having a tank seems like a bad idea. Would draw way to much attention to you from other survivors. Every raider in a hundred mile radius will want it, and every wack job survivor is going to try to latch on to you assuming you can protect them.

Get surrounded by zombies and your screwed. You might be able to plow through them but, if something get's jammed your stuck. In a swarm of zombies. With no way out. Have fun. If you have a mass of zombies completely surrounding you, then your plan must have been terrible to begin with. Do you find this valuable? |

Bringing back thread from the dead.Elderly, women, children and physically disabled are probably going to be in your group. Either relatives or friends or gf's. How well can they defend themselves? Can they handle a weapon? If they don't have their weapon on hand, do they have any basic self-defence skills? Talking to a friend, she seemed all too certain that her husband would be there. But really, SHTF while at work or at the mall or what have you; how can she assume that her husband is going to be there to protect her? Couples and families aren't within arms reach of each other at all times. Anyone else wonder about this? Do you find this valuable? |

My grandma A) is many KMs north right now, but she has dementia/Alzheimers so she would last long anyways. But she has been shooting for many, many years so I bet she could hold out for at least awhile, her husband (Dads step-dad) owns guns and can shoot, but he has abysmal maintenance skills, he doesn't clean his guns, he oils them. Friends have in between absolutely no skills to quite good with weapons. My GF can shoot but she doesn't own any guns, only knives and axes, plus she's a half hour drive away from me. Hahaha.. you assume too much I think. My group consists of who is in my house, and a friend and his girlfriend that live about 10 houses away. All are able bodied, except I have a 2 year old daughter. My friend has some kind of cheap remington shotgun, and he was the one that bought my Taurus 24/7 .40, I have about 1000 rounds of ammo for that at my house. Last I knew, he had about 180 rounds for the 12 ga. I had to get rid of my guns, so if it went down right now; I would likely have my .40 back, unfortunate as only a handgun is, it's something. I have 3 bows that I would trust to put up with the abuse, and use of bugging out. I have about 60 arrows... not sure if I would be able to bring them all... using bows as a mainstay is a new development, and I haven'[t found time to re-pack for that... will by the end of the weekend though. I have a bar mace, some knives, and unfortunately that is about it for weaponry. My friend is a decent shot with his shotgun, I can hit just fine with that .40. I have been teaching him how to use a recurve... I would say he's maybe slightly below average... I am decent, but I should be with 28-ish years of experience with them. Nobody else has any skill with either, and has no desire to change that. So I suppose if we end up in a hairy situation, I'm probably in a tough spot. So it's: Me- .40 Taurus, a bar mace, and a recurve Shawn - 12.ga Remington, and a recurve. Everyone else best be quiet...hahaha Do you find this valuable? |

That there are places that you can't bring weapons? Do you bring guns to work? Is there nowhere in your life that you shouldn't bring a weapon? Do you find this valuable? |

I was reffering to all the elderly and physically disabled... I'm a contractor, so even if it goes down at work...likely won't be much of that; and when I had them, yeah, I brought my guns to work.
