Bigfoot's Shooting Range.
Jan 31 2010, 7:25 PM EST
This is an old 200 yard shooting range in the woods of the Shenandoah Valley. There are a dozen different shooting lanes, and one large, concreate buildings with chairs, vending machines, several racks of guns and, of course, animal heads lining the walls.I got the idea for this thread after Stryker's post of a car-specific one. So, this one is gun-specific. Come here to talk about your favorite guns, and discuss different firearms and ammunition against each other. Hopefully, this will go well. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"*walks in carrying box of molotovs, sits down*Yes I do. *tosses him one.* While I use the 535 myself, it is basically the same gun, just with a 3.5" chamber. However, the 500 has the advantage of more accessories. But, yes, the Mossberg is a very reliable, accurate (for a shotgun,) and easy to use gun. I highly suggest one. Also, I'm hoping for a fight like that. 'Cause here, you can literally duke it out. Do you find this valuable? |

"Opinion on Crimson Trace grips anyone?"I used to have one for my 1911, and it worked pretty well. Obviously, it won't work in the day, but it was easy to use in low light, and it was less obtrusive in a holster than a rail-mounted laser. They are a tad expensive, but not unbelievably so. We've got most kinds of guns that you can think of, BWM. For example, *holds up a Colt Python* I like this one. Also, for handguns, I've been looking a lot at the FN FNP45. It reminds me a lot of the Springfield XD, but the fact that it's totally ambidextrous and the classic DA/SA trigger appeal to me. Do you find this valuable? |

"Opinion on Crimson Trace grips anyone?"My duty gun (S&W 67) had a set of Crimson Trace grips. They're real nice for shooting at indoor firing ranges but I simply didn't find any other use for them when I was working for Garda - except for maybe pointing my gun at different stuff inside my armored Sprinter.... (I know, bad/unsake handling practice, but you get SOO bored in those trucks.) I don't think CT's are good for anyone less than an experienced shooter because if they're used a lot, it could become a crutch for bad sight alignment habits. The laser doesn't require you to sight up the target, so the natural tendency is to point shoot so that you can see the dot without the obstruction of the gun's barrel. All in all, they're neat, but I wouldn't invest in a set for myself. Do you find this valuable? |

That's true; it is easy to get lazy and have bad habits. However, this may be useful if you have to shoot quickly, or in low-light conditions. They aren't really too good for zombies; point shooting at the head isn't a good idea. But, against human targets, it may work in a pinch. Do you find this valuable? |

I don't know about you guys, but i'm actually faster to aim with iron sights than with a laser. The problem with a laser is you can't see it unless you are already on target. If you are using only your laser, and you are aiming too high or too far off to the side you won't even be able to see where the laser is pointing. In that time I could have already lined up a shot with my irons and pulled the trigger.*oh, and i'm here at the range digging the magazines out of my shooting bag. Did anyone bring a stapler for the targets??? Do you find this valuable? |

*looks up from shooting his Savage 110 at 100 yards.*Here Possum *hands him a stapler.* I haven't used lasers in a while. Still, I see what you're saying. Like I said, lasers are good for really close-range shooting at humans; probably not zombies. *jerks thumb towards the gun rack.* I'm sure there's one over there somewhere, Wat. I'm not sure where.
