has quite a bit of merit...but i will be unable to attend any such "get together"
(school)
i would love for the zsdw to have a large meeting but the major damage(lol) of it would be the money required.
I know that some would be willing to drop some money to pay for it but some wouldn't or are unable.

Familiarization fire would be cool - not sure how many members would like other members or family to fire their weapons. Perhaps too military?

This way you can see what weapon may fit you the best. A lot of these weapons are not available at a gun range to rent.

Oh well, just a suggestion.

Ok thinking about it some more instead of a familiarization fire, have a gun range so people can share firing weapons, perhaps provide techniques\instruction to shoot better, and if members want to allow other members to fire their weapons, that is their option.

Get sponsors to help run the convention. people do it all the time. Offer to advertise them if they advertise you.
like... when you go to a starwars convention. any companies who make anything to do with starwars - hasbro, sony - video games, action figures... they all head right for the starwars convention.

this one is geared towards zombie survival but survival in general. But anyone who makes somthing for zombies - video games, movies, merchandise - can all be good sponsors. Like, zbox can set up a game trailer with xbox 360's and feature L4D2.
Add to that people who make outdoors camping and survival - mountain house, coghlan's.... You can have ambulence, firetruck and even military and swat teams. maybe even a rescue helicopter and team.

Convention sponsors would solve the money problem and I do see the convention as being highly marketable and flexible to many people.

Since there will be a paintball field, get Tippmann as a sponsor to supply you with rental guns. The possibilities are endless.

Sponsors are good but I would prefer more survival and maybe weapon type sponsors. The key statement will be, we may have zombies as our mascot but we prepare for any apocalypse or catastrophe such as what recently happened in Haiti to the unknown where there is a major break down in services and perhaps government. Some people will not react well to just ZPAW survival. If you get XBox sponsors, that may attract more Mall Ninjas and etc.

For feeding the platoon of ZSDW members and related individuals, here's a few:

Foods that you'd find at an open house or potluck would work, possibly bulk purchases of pizza or deals from local catering services could be arranged, encouraging people to bring their own snacks and stuff would be useful as well.

Facilities....Given we make our own food instead or on the side to the aforementioned:

We'd need a decent-sized kitchen with proper utensils, stove, oven, sink, fridge and freezer or a number of grills with grilling utensils along with iced coolers to feed a multitude of people in a timely fashion.

We'd have to have dedicated individuals work on the food at times when others would be doing 'fun things,' like shooting at the range or going hiking. They'd also have to get up earlier than the rest to get breakfast rolling as well.

These individuals need to know basic hygiene/food safety, they need to be able to cooperate to get the job done under the leadership of a head chef and at least one person needs to know 1st aid in case of cuts or burns.

Also, we'd need soap, rags, water and sinks/basins/tubs/whatever to wash the dishes/utensils/cutlery, but styrofoam dinner trays, paper plates and plastic cutlery and cups could cut down on this immensely.....but I'd still wash the plastic 'cause I'm that cheap >:)

If we have campfires of a bonfire, we'd need stuff for s'mores along with frankfurters and hot-dog skewers.

We need to be sure people don't waste food, so initiating the whole 'take one' or 'two scoops only 'till everyone else gets some' would be necessary.

Lastly, money. We need to be thrifty with the acquisition of the food and related stuffs. Buying in bulk, taking advantage of offers or deals, using connections, all of this will be essential to cutting costs.

like, even if we got Remington and Mossberg and some of those companies to sponsor us and set up a place where they can sample weapons and sell them, even. Do you find this valuable?

Are we trying to generate revenue or be good XPAW\POC survivalist? I just think it is a bad idea to have X-Box and similar sponsors. And are we opening this up to the public or ZSDW only? I do not think sponsor's will sponsor an internal, ZSDW only, event. Of course, it does not hurt to try. As for the public, I prefer ZSDW members and families only. Opening it to the public opens a whole can of worms when it comes to accountability and liability. There will be events we will not be able to do with the public being admitted. Perhaps allowing other zombie\apoc\paw survivalist outside of ZSDW will be more plausible?

This will definitely put us further on the map of legitimate Zombie survivalist and help the You Tube project progress from all of the video that will take place at this event.

yea true, opening it up to the public could cause problems. The last thing any of us want is a real gun in the hands of a mall ninja. I understand.
But that doesn't mean we can't advertise the convention like F*** and have a flood of members join the site before hand... then they may be able to come.

choosing sponsors is about covering yoru bases. You want sponsors who are willing to showcase and sell merchandise, but theres also entertainment, and sponsors are good for that as well. Thats why i just labled xbox. for entertainment, thats just the first thought in my head. The possibilities are seemingly endless in my eyes, its up to everyone else on how far you want to take it.

I agree with you guys! I think it would be a good idea to consider sponsors for the event. This will allow you guys to expand on the event without having to pay out of pocket. Allow them to setup booths for their products (Zed-Con related, of course... Like knifes, survival kits, first aid, training groups, the sky's the limit!), advertise them throughout the event, and you'll be amazed at how big this could get!

Maybe include a session on setting up your compound. Reinforcing a pre-built compound, setting up your own from scratch, and how to keep it up and running while you've got it. Gardening, Livestock care, Group dynamics, stuff that will help you survive longer with uninfected while battling those that are infected.

Hehehe.. Maybe I should have mentioned the fact that the livestock discussion should include something about proper cleaning/butchering techniques for survival? How to house, store, and prepare meat to last longer without refrigeration...

Can't forget the all important blood and gore... LoL
