why?

even if this were to work as you say it will why would you carry around a toy that in the best case circumstance is still totally useless? the idea of "survival" is to avoid unnessisary fighting and a nerf gun destroys this idea in 3 massive ways. 1st: you are probably wanting to sneak by them and nerf guns are actually fairly loud. 2nd: what if you get ambushed? even if this COULD work how you say it would take too long to work on even ONE zombie leaving you massivly vulnerable to attack. 3rd: why use a toy when there are many house hold objects that would still do a better job anyway. for example you try to carry your favorite nerf gun through a zombie infested city(say... the vulcan for example) you are wasting pretious energy and carrying ability that would be better spent on food, water and in the worst case maybe a REAL WEAPON. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. I highly doubt this would work. More likely, the Zeds would ignore the "Distraction" and go straight for the main course: you. Rather than being effective against the undead, this seems more likely to scream "Zombie-bait"
And even if this is something that can affect the human brain, how can we know it will affect an undead brain? A little hard to test without any zombies around.
And mall zombies don't count. Repeat, do not run to your local mall and start shooting people with nerf guns!

Now, i can understand if you are in an area that does not allow guns, or you're too young to obtain one, however, in this case I would bet you'd be better off packing more survival gear and focus on running and not being found.
