Communication system

Ok, is it just me, or does anyone else think it would be a good idea to set a standard of communications for all of the existing/ future RVE points? My idea would be to set up a radio relay system on the Citizen's Band radios on a specified channel. Does anyone else have any better ideas? 5  out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

Problem is we can't really have one CB channel across the country. If we said, for example, use channel 6, what if it was in use, or had abysmal interference?

Unless we have some people who can set up a radio station (which isn't completely out of the question when you read some people's bio's) then we can only suggest scanning all the CB frequencies on a regular basis.

good point, maybe a more rudementary form of communication should be set up; maybe a courier system using couriers mounted on horseback or in motor vehicles. When the courier, comes along, each RVE/ BOL could supply the courier with ammo/ supplies. Do you find this valuable?

the courier system is probably the best idea, think "The Postman" with Kevin Costner if a set of BOLs were to get in contact they could start clearing out the areas surrounding them and in between in coordinated attacks Do you find this valuable?

In my opinion everything would have to start out local. A local radio frequancy and than later build a sort of network and large radio relay stations and such. Gotta keep in touch with everyone and get the word out of high risk or low risk areas. Do you find this valuable?

Let's try to cover HAM (Amateur Radio) here to! I'm going to test for my technician license within the next month. Also, if anyone else out there knows anything about it, is it possible to take BOTH the technician and the general parts, but if you fail general and pass technician, still get you license? Just wanna have a chance to get general, without having to retest. Do you find this valuable?

Not likely. Depending on the "communication System" you'll be "Operating," you may not be allowed to post the specifics of how your gear works or it's limitations/capabilities.

I work in communications, and besides the data networking side of the house (CCNA stuff) there is quite a bit of gear I am not allowed to talk about.

I think a better page to write (*cough* not it *cough*) would be one explaining the basics and fundamentals of radio communications, and outlining a few generic and commercially available systems, and how they work, to dispel some of the myths of radio communication.

I thought about writing a similar page about wireless networking (since a good number of folks here think wireless cards have magical properties) but I am far too occupied most times.

BTW, I thought you already shipped Sgt G??? Or are you posting from boot camp on your cell phone?

Nancy Boy.

I have an idea? I was just watching band of brothers and in order to identify friend from foe they would say, "flash", to which his ally would reply "thunder." A simple code like this, known only by the selected few would allow for easy identification? Do you find this valuable?

Why not HAM? I understand that you need to get a license and the equipment isn't as available as CB stuff, but it's more powerful and versatile. Do you find this valuable?
