Regarding CanadianSurvivor's Armory...
Feb 17 2010, 6:23 PM EST | Post edited: Feb 17 2010, 6:23 PM EST
I think that's a great plan, however, I see one big 'what-if' scenario. What if you are unable to get in the armory? If it contains "several thousand rounds of ammunition of various types, as well as weapons," why would it not be locked tight? What if some family is on the inside, blocking you out? What if - God forbid - some raiders who were closer got there first, picked the place clean, and are now running around the streets of your hometown with machine guns, while you only have a 10/.22?

Those ARE worst-case scenarios, but do you have a backup place for weapons if TSHTF?

I would rather check an armory a couple days after and everything has cooled down. The Army has probably taken out everything and if not it's all gonna be locked up. It is a good plan though but I'd rather have my .22 target rifle then be killed by people rushing for the only place they know where to get weapons. Do you find this valuable?

Yeah, his plan says he would go there in the days after the Panic.

"Yeah, his plan says he would go there in the days after the Panic."
Be prepared to bring a sledghammer and a cutting torch or you'll never get past the outside. More than likely 90% of the weapons and ammo will be gone the moment that the unit that that armory supplies is activated. However, there is a good chance some weapons will remain.
Keep in mind there won't be any food there and you lack the keys to get in. Lets just say you show up and it's locked up with noone around. You will have to cut through numerous steel dorrs and cages to get access, and that means you will not be able to properly secure yourself in it (if the plan was to use it as a stronghold).
Now just to play devils advocate lets say best case scenario, you get there it's un-touched and there is noone around. and you have a key.
That armory is marked on every military map in existence. All it would take would be 1 military unit running low on ammo to stop by and you'd be shot.

Either way it's best to stay clear, there are much better places to get military weaponry.
Reserve units keep a small stash of them in every reserve barracks as well as emergency mre supplies,
So do all military PMO shacks as well as lesser guard houses on smaller bases that have no pmo shed.
Also if its an air force or marine corps air station, you could raid the hangers and if your lucky you'd find the weapons locker where the pdw's are stored, but that's a streatch.

In the US, perhaps. Unfortunately, military bases are in relatively short supply near my hometown. The armory is my best bet regarding weaponry. As for the security...lets just say I may have a few connections(buddy with access to the keys. May be dead, but hey, it's a shot. And besides, I know where the keys are kept) Do you find this valuable?

Hah! Nothing says treason like someone on the internet saying that they have keys to a Canadian armory.

But that's a good backup. Thanks for the knowledge ^_^. BTW, if I swing up north on my "ZedPoc World Tour" will you let me camp in your city?

Upon assurance of good behaviour and the mandatory quarantine period, of course. And I don't have the keys, just know where they're kept. Lol

If you don't something now, don't count on having if SHTF plain and simple. Don't count on those keys being there for you.

if I don't have it now, you mean? And I don't count on, I hope. As I believe I made clear in the "Canucks" thread on my plan

You don't have the keys within a walking distance as of right now, more than likely won't ever get them
No, you didn't you gave it "a shot in the dark" which implies desperation, and even then you have three options when you arrive at the armory

1. Others have already cleaned it out and nothing is left for your use.

2. Hostiles are present and inside whether they be zeds, military, raiders or people trying to get by. They don't like you and the want to show it.

3. It's locked and unopened, if you somehow got the key you get to go inside, and this means that Canada's army has already faltered against the zeds, go ahead and try to fight off the numbers; without proper training in your guns, resupplying your ammo, and spare parts

*sigh* Can I get some solutions instead of a bashing? Instead of saying what I did wrong, suggest a probable solution. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Acquire your own firearm that you feel comfortable with, practice with the plenty and be sure to buy extra ammo for it. Learn how to sneak up on people and away from them.
Build up your cardio, hiding and running may seem less "badass" than blowing everyone's head off, but as my saying goes, "common sense will prevail over any caliber."
If you do this then in your survival plan, there will be no "what if's", only "I will"

Not really how it works. We can spot flaws in a plan, and ask questions. We might be able to make suggestions, but they are only based on the information you provide.

You have a more complete picture, and so you can suggest better and more accurate solutions than we can.

Thanks for the advice. I'm actually working on my cardio anyways because we're finally getting some decent weather

Glad to hear it, remember as humans were made for two things; endurance running, and adapting. Those two aspects have gotten us to where we are today, and will certainly get us past Z-day.
