"Simulations"
Feb 18 2010, 9:21 PM EST
So my group and I had a meeting the other day, and an interesting topic came up: Simulations. We brainstormed a few ideas and came up with a few interesting ones. Like "OP: Hide and Seek" Basically a team of 3~4 people "break" into a house and clear it of "zombies" 1 by 1. So I was wondering, has anyone else run any "simulations"? What were they? Did your group or people you were doing them with seem to enjoy it? Any ideas for anymore? Do you find this valuable?

I really like the idea and possibility of a simulation. How would you "clear" a room? Can you fill me in on what OP: Hide and Seek is? Some special Hide and Seek?In a sort of related survival thing, me and a few friends, last summer, and again this summer, will kayak to an island on the river that we would survive on, and just for the fun of it, pitch a tent or two and hang out a day or two. It's nowhere near the seriousness of an actual suvival situation, but when youre out there , without even the possibility of walking home, or even to a nearby house, its really somthing different. If you wanted to really make this realistic, you could camp out in the woods for a day or two, while a couple buddies in paintball masks try to sneak up on you. If you spot them, you have a single shot airsoft gun (I originally thought paintball, but that would hurt a lot more) - and only headshots kill. Id hate to be the sucker getting shot, but taking turns will give everyone the idea that they have to constantly be on the lookout. If the "zombie" either touches you, or gets within a certain distance, its all over. What do y'all think? Do you find this valuable? |

try walking out your door Friday morning, and after work head to your bug out location. live off what you have in your bag. look for USPS ( http://www.uspsa.org/ ) competitions in your area (there are others that do the same kind of thing, USPS was the first to come to mind. try shooting paintball at 25 yards. Has anyone seen the game called GMod? It's an immensly popular game that allows players to use Valve's Source engine that was made for Half-Life 2. It allows users to spawn objects, ragdolls, weapons, non-playable characters (enemies, allies, etc.). It also allows people to mod the game and create new NPCs, weapons, etc.So where I'm getting at is, ask around for someone who could make a training mod for GMod. Have them make zombie models that could only be killed by a headshot. Then download a weapons mod that contains some of the guns in your BOB. Finally, get a map editor to create a map of your BOL and surrounding location. Load up the map, disable the AI, spawn the zombies, give yourself some guns (1 primary, 1 secondary, 1 melee?) and commence a sweep of the area. Becuase experienced map editors can make actual realistic houses and buildings with interiors and even hiding places, you could have a friend spawn the zombies while you aren't looking, forcing you to sweep 100%. At the end, you can set a nuclear bomb to go off (another mod) and if any zombies are killed, it shows the kills in the screen and you have failed your mission. Sounds fun? Or, if you don't have time, I have an idea for a knife fight. I saw it at my local Karate tournament. Two people, with goggles and street clothes, with foam knives coated in chalk. When the judge said "Go" they attacked eachother, trying to score a lethal wound. It looked fast paced and intense, even from a spectator position. I bet it was insane for the contestants. So my idea: wearing black clothes (and, optionally, your chosen armor), have two people in the street of your town. Both are armed with a knife coated in chalk -- something that won't be mistaken for the real thing. The first person is "sweeping" for "zombies." The second person is a "zombie" and should hide. When they find eachother, assume that the zombie is in melee range. If the "zombie" player scores a wound on your body, you fail the mission. You have to either a. "sever the zombie's head" by hitting the zombie in the neck or "stabbing" it in the head using your knife. If the survior wants to, they can sever the zombie's arms to keep it from attacking (if both are severed, it is assumed that it can still "bite" and has to do a "T-Rex" arm thing). Ta-Da! Instant melee training before Z-Day. Do you find this valuable? |

I bet it was insane for the contestants. We do this in my shop all the time, using dry erase markers. There is also a product called "shock knife" which actually gives you a healthy zap when the blade makes contact. It's an awesome training aid for knives, since it hurts like sh!t (giving you the adrenaline dump needed for effective training) but is nonlethal. Downside is they cost about $400 apiece. We also do Nerf "assassinations" around my company, replete with rehearsal and dynamic entry. Few things are as satisfying as pelting a Warrant Officer with 300 foam darts first thing in the morning while he is enjoying his coffee. Do you find this valuable? |

Basically in "OP: Hide and Seek",some "zombies" hide in a house while human players hunt them down clearing the house room by room. It's a pretty fun game. You can even leave the lights off, simulating the electricity being out. ETC. ETC. Do you find this valuable? |

"Basically in "OP: Hide and Seek",Better yet, have them wear a red man suit so you can whoop the everliving dogsh*t out of them and make it more realistic. Do you find this valuable? |

Me and my friends used to play an airsoft game we made up that was part zombie, part horror movie related. One of our friends would go hide outside in the yard or woods at night, and 3-5 of us would go out and hunt him. You could only kill him with shots to the head and he would come at us like a rager zombie, except worse. The darkness, and him running, screaming at us.......we pulled off very little head shots. If he made it to one of us, his objective was to tackle us and "maul" us. We got into many a wrestling, punching, kicking fight. It was very animalistic. Do you find this valuable? |

Haha wow Pyro that... sounds awesome. Haha. Hey Zroom, how do you "eliminate" them? Just whatever terms you decide? Nerf guns or bokkens, etc?I just remembered, a buddy from school visited a college, I dont remember which, but the students played a zombie game - some students would sign up as zombies, others as humans. Humans would carry around nerf guns, and the zombies would just try to touch the human. They would jsut go about their lifes, as normal, for a month or so, and play this game. Just going around campus, a zombie might suddenly start shuffling towards you, and a human would have to hit him with a nerf gun. Haha. Probly doesnt happen much, and i dont know if they even do that, but that sounds like a lot of fun. Do you find this valuable? |
