Online Rifle "Postal" Match?
Feb 28 2010, 11:25 PM EST | Post edited: Feb 28 2010, 11:30 PM EST
Would anyone on the site be interested in a postal match for the month of March? Iron sights ONLY, centerfire calibers, 100 yards? Handloads & match ammo permitted, but you must admit to using them... Also, gotta have a camera or scanner to show target and upload to site (or email to me.)

5 holes (shots) per target, standard 100 yard target... or you can use the target posted below.

No prizes - just for fun. I'd like to see what my fellow zombie survival enthusiasts are capable of. I'll also be entering - I plan on doing my shoot this weekend! Anyone game? I'd be glad to run my ex-sniper M91/30 up against anyone here....!

What is a centerfire caliber? Not sure if I have any of those.

I'm game if I can find a scanner, get my hands on one of those rifles, and can get to a place to shoot.

No gurantees though, heh.

I'll play. The only problem I can see though is that people will cheat and use a scope, or shoot at 25 yards and say it was 100.

I'll try to do a group at 100 with this target using irons and post it up.

My most accurate rifle is scope only, so I'll be stuck with using the irons on my Sig probably.

A centerfire is any round that has a round primer in the middle/back of the casing.

You could use .223, .308, 30-06, 7.62 anything like that. as long as you can see the primer on the back of the case.

You couldn't use rimfire cartridges such as .22LR .22 mag 30-30, etc.

LOL!!

I'm glad you guys are interested. I'll be headed to the range on Saturday. At latest, the target pics will be posted on Sunday. As possumblaster's said, the biggest problem we'll have is people trying to pull a fast one - remember cheaters, the only person you're cheating on this is yourself. Please be honest!

PS - The way its looking thus far, I've got some tough competition - two Swiss rifles! Good luck gents!

We decided to do this a week after I trade my hunting rifle off?
I'm sure I'll think of something. Looks like it's time to fall back on the hi-point once again.

yeah, well that and by the strictest definition "going postal" involves shooting everyone you don't particularly like in a 100 ft radius

I should know, I've been voted 'Most Likely to Go Postal" by every workcenter so far.

I was thinking of a similar idea, actually, except a stress course for handguns rather than a long rifle test. Would anybody be interested in me writing that up? Do you find this valuable?

Keep the thread alive and I'm in. Just have to get my hands on an iron sight rifle (avoiding the AK). Is bench shooting fine or does it need to be from the sitting/standing/prone? Do you find this valuable?

Darn Marines and their Standing/sitting/prone :P

And I plan on going shooting saturday (if the weather permits) with my M91/30, and Gew 98. But I'll just get a target from the range.

Surprisingly enough, I took my new Sig p226 shooting for the first time today. At 50-ish paces I was putting every round in a torso sized target. Maybe we should try the same thing for handguns. Do you find this valuable?

If they close the post office on Saturdays, that might limit my participation.

(can't go postal in the classic sense)

@AHB
If it were up to me, we'd do a three round set of standing, sitting/kneeling and prone but I'm a 3 pos. shooter:) Bench is fine. I'm gonna be shooting bench for my best target.

@John_234
I'd be down for a pistol match too. 7 yards standing? If we're down, I can fit this in on Saturday too. I'll use my old Makarov for this...

Oh, on your targets (for rifle match),make sure to write your username CLEARLY on the target, in marker or sharpie, so that we know that you did the shooting. You don't have to score the target, but this would be beneficial, as would a measure of the group size.

I'll shoot bench then I guess. I would REALLY like to use the .17 HMR but it doesn't have open sights. I think my only options now might be either the AK or the 7mm Mag. I can't remember if my buddies Dragunov has open sights or not, but I know his scope is canted so maybe it does. I'll figure it out range day.

Also we need to do a size reference on peoples targets. Like lay a ruler or a dollar bill beside the group. If you use a big target it misleads you into thinking you're shooting a small group.
