Eat zombies?
Mar 3 2010, 1:57 AM EST | Post edited: Mar 3 2010, 1:57 AM EST
I'm sure its been asked before and will be asked again. Can you eat a zombie? Assuming you bag yourself a recently deceased, not a rotten zombie, can you boil the zombie meat enough, or smoke it to be zombie jerky? Understanding this would be a dangerous process, and even the slightest bit of uncooked zombie meat could make your want to eat your buddies. But I would assume you'd ingest just as much zombie blood-mist if you were beating one with a bat.... maybe I should invest in painter's masks Do you find this valuable?

I would say this is a terrible idea.

You may be able to kill the virus and avoid infection through boiling, but the meat itself could have been spoiled or even poisoned by the change. Obviously some kind of chemical transformation has taken place in the brain to make a dead person behave in this way -- it isn't much of a stretch to assume that similar changes could have taken place throughout the rest of the body as well.

During the infection process, any number of harmful but normally regulated chemicals and hormones may have been flooded from the brain and into the circulatory system.

As for breathing in blood, this is a danger. Not so much if there is no blood circulating or enzymes present to keep it from clotting -- in essence a zombie doesn't "bleed" or "bleed out." But yes, I would still consider it a danger and avoid both courses of action.

I would like to add on top of that. How would you like to 'kill' and eat something that was once your best friend, or your mother? I don't know about you, but that would make me puke. (I mean if it actually happened.) Do you find this valuable?

Some archetypes are edible. Some are not. But would you want to be the first guy to try it? I think that starvation would need to be prolonged before it would be something anyone would try. And they would be trying it alone. Other people would make better, less contaminated food sources.

So if they are doing it solo, and it fails, nobody would know. If they do eat one and survive, news would spread fairly quickly, if only to test the guy as a potential cure/vaccine. So there is another reason to not say anything.

Quite honestly, I would never do it. But come Z day if you find yourself hungry and/or curious, be sure to keep a journal so if someone finds it, they know what happened.

Wouldn't eat a zombie. Exception: say, I get bitten... Seeing as how I'd be dead soon anyway it only makes sence for me to bite the motha****** back (give em a taste of their own medicine). If it's toxic, great! If I have somthing else I can kill it with, sure, I'll do that instead. Might sound stupid, but if I was bit it would atleast make me feel better... 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Idea 1. Zed flesh is nontoxic and you can get the virus out. After a few days of eating zombie meat in various recipies (http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/thread/3715379/Zombie+Meat+Recipes)
you get Kuru, which causes insanity, and you die.

Idea 2. The zombie flesh is toxic or otherwise hazardous. You eat it and die.

However, maybe if zed meat is toxic, then the blood should be toxic too. A killed zed could be used to its full potenital, aka: you put the blood in a spray bottle and use it as weedkiller, hunting aid, etc.

Erm you're still biting a rotten corpse. That doesn't sound appealing to me in any way shape or form.

I would not recommend it in any case. Aside from the difficulty in killing the virus (most likely only possible by burning the body to ash), if dealing with reanimated corpses you have no clue how long the body was dead. If it's been gone for even a few hours before reanimation, it'll likely be diseased. Any longer, and it's probably certain death. Do you find this valuable?

You can't because zombie flesh is highly toxic. It is clearly stated in the zombie survival guide by Max Brooks that zombie flesh will kill you. Not make you ill, not make you a zombie and certainly not stop your hunger...

It also tastes like s**t.

Here at the ZSDW, we dont take Max Brooks word for everything, as he is but fiction writer, and the zombies he writes about are fictional. Thus, we dont know for sure if it will kill you to eat zombie meat, even though its a good possibility. Do you find this valuable?

Actually, you probably could. Find a section of zombie flesh that isn't rotten or totally gross and sear it until it's brown in the middle, and whatever virus or bacteria causes zombies would be cooked to death by then, unless the strain is extremely virulent. I'd recommend you have your least favorite neighbor or child try it before you do. Do you find this valuable?

*Also face-palms* Now why didn't I think of that. When I heard of Mr. Max his surname didn't make any connections to me at all. But like I said last time...

? is a question mark, often used to denote confusion, typing in a ? often requires one to hit the shift key and the / key at the same time, making the probability of ? being a typo rather low.
