I remember reading about something similar happening. Actually, it was in Black Hawk Down. A man (can't remember the name) supposedly got shot dead center in the head, but the bullet didn't go all the way through. He was fine.

Clearly this supports the "bullets bouncing around in head and liquefying brain" hypothesis!...Assuming it consistently hits the forehead. Do you find this valuable? |

"kinda makes me worried about z-dayare you suggesting that getting shot in the head and it bouncing off is a regular occurrence? Maybe, MAYBE, JUST MAYBE 1:100,000. I doubt anyone will claim 100,000 kills post ZDay, or anything close to it. I will be happy with 3 or 4, and in the long run, I would prefer to have to kill 0. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. I remember a reference to something similar in WWZ. RE: Battle of Yonkers. Some of the Soldiers started running & panicking because the rounds from their rifles were bouncing off of Zack's heads... Just remember to fire another round at the head if 'They' don't go down... Do you find this valuable? |

i think i read in one of my zombie books that if the bullet hit on just the right angle then it would ride along the roof of the scull which wouldnt kill the zombie. i like to think something like that happened at the battle of yonkers. or it could have just been an off shot or maybe even a steel plate. that steel plate thing was in a couple of the books i read its actually kinda scary like zobmie armour.

Like, after a Craniotomy? That's an interesting point... I don't think it's been brought up before... Do you find this valuable? |

"Steel plating in the head? Like, after a Craniotomy?my great uncle has most of the top of his head covered in steal plates. he was in some kind of accident like 20 years ago and has had multiple surgeries over the years im exactly sure why but i know he was in a coma for like 18 months once and he only remembers my name about half the time. i will have to ask my aunt how thick the plates are maybe she knows. how thick would the steal plate have to be to deflect most handgun rounds?? A man (can't remember the name) supposedly got shot dead center in the head, but the bullet didn't go all the way through. He was fine."Actually, it was a shard of shrapnel, not a full power bullet. Another man was shot in the back of the head with a 7.62x39mm and the concussive force alone made him blind, though his K-pot had stopped the round. I'd personally think this was common sense, but notable stories are generally the exception. Nobody is going to write an article about the 99% of people who died instantly when shot in the head, unless the focus of the article is the murder rather than the scientific implications. One of our longer serving members can attest to bullet ricochets. There are a lot of factors which can affect the path, but mostly it is down to the angle of impact. The skull is not a flat surface. It has curves, bumps, ridges and differing thicknesses. Unless a bullet hits dead-on perpendicular, some of the energy will go into a lateral motion. This will move the bullet, and change the impact surface. More energy can then be put into lateral motion, and so on, until the bullet is deflected. As for the oft-cited brain ricochet, this is documented. Incidence rate is around 20% of .22 rounds, less for more powerful rounds since they have enough energy to punch through and escape. Which is why I rarely carry any thing smaller then a 40 for work or CCW. True story, had a gun that was shot at close range (under 5 feet)with a 22. It was winter so he was wearing a fairy thick coat. He took 3 rounds center mass, all shots faild to even break the skin. The moral of the story is always bring enough "gun" to a gun fight. I was just looking into this. Is there a chance that he had a metal plate in his skull? If true, all it would take is for the bullet to hit a screw the wrong way and it could ricochet and simply fly off somewhere.

"I was just looking into this. Is there a chance that he had a metal plate in his skull? Either way, the plates (and fixings) are subject to the same curves as the skull. So metal or skull, what matters is the angle of impact. As for the subject in question, he is more likely to have a metal plate post-gunfire, if the bullet cracked the skull as it bounced off. Do you find this valuable? |

I was watching on the news once, this cop shot a guy who was armed with a hunting rifle. Cop shot him clear in the head and he did fall back, but nothing happened to him. They found a dent where the bullet woulve hit and it didn't kill him only because he had a metal plate in his head and the bullet bounced off an appendage of sorts. I actually found it was really cool, this just sounds simmilar.
