i see a few problems with rifles 1.with bolt rifles you have to re-load with each shot, so if ou end up under attack it would be quite useless at points 2.they are quite effective with range but a shot gun would be more effective for taking out bodyparts because unlike a normal person a shot to the leg or body wont stop them dead (or.um...undead) 3.because of there slow rate of fire (with the escaptoin of assault rifles)you would probably need a back-up gun,or a partner/team please reply and give your oppinoin Do you find this valuable? |

My opinion on this argument has already been covered in other threads on here, so I will summarize:1) Rate of fire: if you are taking time to actually aim, the rate of fire on a bolt action is comparable to that of an AR. Only problem I have with my Mosin is the five round magazine. 2) Secondary weapons: No matter what your weapon of choice is, you should always have a back-up. Do you find this valuable? |

"i see a few problems with rifles1. Compared to no gun at all, bolt action ain't too bad. If you can get your hands on better, great, if not, work with what you got. Also, bolt actions aren't the only type of rifle. 2. Why would you take out a body part instead of aiming for a kill shot, or a pelvic shot? 3. That's a rule for any kind of combat. You don't do it alone when you can bring competent buddies. Do you find this valuable? |

"i see a few problems with riflesThose are some problems, but there are also some positives. 1. The range of a rifle is quite efective, add a scope, thats even better. 2.has a slow rate of fire, depleates ammunition much less. 3.Rifles can be very strong, like my .50 cal,but ammo is tough to find, Do you find this valuable? |

"i see a few problems with rifles1. I agree. The big argument over bolt action rifles comes down to additional distance/accuracy and it encourages people to pick their shots. Personally, for a zday application, I won't need to reach out and touch someone at a distance a semi automatic rifle cant comfortably reach. Why risk missing at 700 yards with a bolt action when you can wait a bit and guarantee a hit when they get within 300 yards. 2. Shotguns fall short in magazine capacity, control, and reload speed. Even with a magazine fed saiga, it only holds 7-8 rounds. I have slowly been changing my opinion on shotguns over the last few months, and I'm starting to see where my pistol would be more suited for most any situation a shotgun would find itself in. 3. If you have the means, you should be carrying a backup gun (or 2) anyways. Some can accurately shoot a bolt action as fast as an equally accurate shot with a semi auto. Now give the guy with the bolt action a semi auto rifle. He just got a little faster. 4. Nevermind, you didn't post a 4. Rifles in general are historically the most useful weapons in battle second maybe only to aerial delivered ordnance. It isnt perfect for every situation, but then again, what is more perfect for any situation? Do you find this valuable? |

i think bolt actions are great for their intended purpose: killing from a distance after taking aim. though i am a relatively good shot and quick reloader (i have a 10 round clip that i can load in 17 seconds) with bolt-action rifles, i personally wouldn't use them post zday. i would much prefer a single-shot or double barrel shotgun with a melee to defend myself if the zeds are right on top of me. given, i definitely would have multiple people in my group "sniping" from rooftops with bolt actions.

"17 seconds? Christ, ever heard of a stripper clip?"I'll tell you, if you tell your parents you bought your bolt-gun just for giggles on the range, like me, they'll give you a funny look when you ask to buy stripper clips. When I even mentioned it, my mom first asked what it was. After I told her what they were, she asked if I was trying to gear up to be Rambo. :/ Feelsgoodman. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

COnsidering there are absolutely zero regulations on them, should be easy enough to simply order them. If you don't have a checking account (debit card) or anything like that, guess you're screwed. I mean, I just ordered 500 MORE rounds of .30CAR, plus 15 magazines of various make and size (those are for testing purposes, though, I already have a metric assload of reliable magazines), shipped to the house. Mom will sure get an interesting surprise with the 30+ pound box with "AMMUNITION TO GO, THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING US!" on it. Do you find this valuable? |

And she did get a surprise when a box with three ammo cans, a KA-BAR knife, lockpicks, some paracord, a range bag, and the clips came in the mail. There was some arguing (I will never order anything behind their back again), but she let me keep everything but the lockpicks. Well, you're over 18, and in the damn Army. The OP and I are under 18, probably 16, and still live with our parents on a regular basis. Of damn course there's going to be questions raised if I ordered, say, a spam can of '54R without asking. And for the most part, she does let me do stuff like that when I tell her. Sorry if I actually care about what my parents tell me to do. Do you find this valuable? |

Second, I still send everything to my home stateside. Which is with my mother. I do still love my mommy. And you can quote me on that. I sent things there since I was 16, from completely random and useless surplus junk to ammunition and parts. Sure, I asked for the ammunition, as that requires a signature and I was never home (had to make the $$), but as long as it's legal and not especially harmful, they shouldn't care. Especially tiny strips of metal that make loading the magazine easier and hopefully faster. Do you find this valuable? |

Cheaper than Dirt, around $12, I think, for Condition I .50 cans. I got two of those to store ammo. They also sell Condition I .30 cans for like $8. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ItemListing.aspx?catid=290 Do you find this valuable? |

Stripper clips aren't available for many rifles, and unless you know where to look, stripper clips can be quite difficult to find

Not to be rude, but you have to much expendable income. But great choice, it's hard to find ammo in .30 that will jam easily in any rifle unless horribly maintained

Not gonna lie, it's probably for the best that she didn't let you have the picks. They are extremely difficult to use even after extensive practice. I have a set and practice regularly and it still takes well over a minute to pick a lock (especially doorknobs and deadbolts because they usually have six pins). Another thing is that they ruin locks so unless you have money, a decent supply (ive got a couple extra), or parents that won't care when their keys won't work you won't be able to practice regularly. It's not like on TV where you spend 2 seconds and unlock it, it takes a long time. And if your vetting them to escape zombies, drop the picks and shoot the hinges.
