After the Fact
Mar 17 2010, 11:00 PM EDT
Now this question has probably been asked before, but zombies have an expiration date. Eventually they will die off, starve from the lack of human flesh, or be so riddled with lead that they can't move anymore, but they will end. After the zombies are gone, what do you think the next biggest danger will be? Roving bands of bandits causing pain and dismay were every they tread, diseases festering due to the mass casualties of the living and undead, the lack of a government or social structure, or some other devastation not listed? What do you think the next hurdle would be to try to reestablish the old way of life or create a something new? 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

I think a huge issue will be lack of manpower. All of the people who do all sorts of behind-the-scenes jobs that keep us running will be dead, displaced, or shorthanded. The garbage man is dead, so who will drive the truck? The guy who pushed a buttong at the electric plant has moved north to reunite with his family, so who will turn the lights back on?It will take some time before all of the critical jobs are filled once again, and a new work force is trained and ready. I just hope the engineers survive. In my opinion, they will be the ones who make the difference between regaining our foothold in civilization or a new dark age. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. After the zombies are gone, what do you think the next biggest danger will be?bandits and diseases will be a big problem. the lack of government will be a good thing. government has way too much power right now. our government isnt really supposed to have any power over the people, this is something we have lost sight of over the years. as far as social structure it will still exist. forts and towns will govern themselves and that is the way it should be. it wont be anarchy. DN is right we would need the engineers to survive to get society back to the way it is today. the big problem would be the lack of doctors. another large problem would be the higher ups in the government surviving with some very loyal military personel. if zday happened tomarrow and the current administration survived and regained power it would be pure socialism with the people having no rights whatsoever. the whole country would be like a prison with no walls. I have been gone for quite a while... But, on topic, I don't think any big cities would be recovered. Without power, or running water, I believe people would settle far away from cities. Do you find this valuable? |

"AARON! Stop using big words...Hehehe"No! i wont, I am Dyslexic (google searched dyslexic) and if I have to have a dictionary every time i go to wright so do you ERIC! Basically I am saying that after zombies are gone what is the next problem I feel that zombies will be gone long before we realize it, making progress slow for cities. A sort of Marxism will be adopted by the people alowing the ones who produce to be the major benifactors. Out side of rebuilt forts and cities would be pure chaos, leading to trade routes being particular dangerous so most towns will be self sufficient. Eventually a Noble Class of society will rise out from the ashes and monarchy will establish dominance. As for jobs, we revert back to the middle ages until rudimentary gas and electricity line can be established. To address the military, I think many will dessert after government resistants groups are formed. Many (survivors) will go on to lead sorts of resistant factions against the zombie. If cities are formed it will be around centers of power and leadership like those of the military, because lets face it, when you tell someone that you are part of the military the majority or the time they respect you more. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. After the zombies are gone, what do you think the next biggest danger will be?Well, after the zombies,it would kind of be like Fallout 3,which i know youve played Vault-tech. People will build cities like megaton(not including the nuclear bomb in the middle of the town) and Rivet City. I will NOT include supermutants and centuars and ghouls etc. but i will include raiders. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Well, after the zombies,it would kind of be like Fallout 3,which i know youve played Vault-tech. "No, just no, Fallout 3 universe has no crops, working guns, livestock that survived and reproduced and the towns are still made of refuse 200 years after the bombs fall. The reason why they had to diverge the time line is so Science! could work and not regular science. That said the next biggest danger, depending on your location will either be raiders or a diminishing food supply. Raiders will try looting what they can get from the city and suburbs, before heading out into the countryside. And any plans for long term survival need to include agriculture, livestock, hunting and gathering and for all that you will either need a big "green" roof or move out to the countryside. Unless you would rather starve to death Do you find this valuable? |

"no, i didnt know that VV but i do know that not eating anything makes you dead so if worse comes to worse im not opposed to eating another human."As I've said before, I don't support cannibalism. It won't be allowed in my group if I can help it. That being said, IMO, there are two kinds of cannibalism: 1. Eating an already-dead corpse. This isn't really THAT bad. 2. Killing someone in order to eat them. This just seems unthinkable to me. Do you find this valuable? |
