Coping with Boredom
Mar 19 2010, 3:44 PM EDT | Post edited: Mar 19 2010, 3:45 PM EDT
My mother once told me that her and her brothers had to learn to be bored and make their own fun because they didn't have tvs in cars and the like.

In a Zpoc when you're in your BOL you will be bored. It is inevitable. So this thread will be where we make our fun.

You have paper, pens, pencils, and crayons along with sharpeners and refils.

Now boys and girls make your own fun.

No tech allowed.

I will stare at the wall. It's what I do when I'm bored and without technology normally. I think I may have issues. However if there aren't any current zombies around my BOL I might go exploring albeit with weapons. Do you find this valuable?

So you'd use battery power for shadow puppets?

Ah. Personally I'm thinking of getting some D&D books to go in my BOL.

I will be taking a journal in my BOB and probably spend sometime writing in it. Maybe when someone finds my chewed up body they'll have something to read Do you find this valuable?

BOL stands for bug out location. Basically the place you are going to when the SHTF.

My coping mechanism will be endlessly cleaning and maintaining my firearms. No sense not to, because you really don't want them to malfunction. Do you find this valuable?

I have a deck of cards in my B.O.B., also a note book and writing utensils. I will also spend time cleaning my weapons, cooking, repairing what ever needs repaired, maintenance, cleaning, gathering supplies, purifying water, and exercising.

Along with scouting the area, sleeping, and sex (with my girlfriend), should take most of any day.

A book at least. I love to write stories. I'd be keeping a science notebook, with my observations of the zeds for future posterity.

No doubt the day would also be consumed by mundane duties, like cooking and the like.

And baby dancing, of course.

How about all the guys compete for who can grow the funniest facial hair? Everyone grows a full beard out for a few months, then one by one they shave it into what they think would be funniest.

Edit: It wouldnt deal with immediate boredom, but it will give people something to look forward to and something to talk about for a couple months.

To cope w/ boredom, I usually just let my mind wander, you know think up of new ways to make stuff. Then I usually do it, if it is plausible of course. Mostly I will be tending to livestock or produce, being that my main source of supply when Zombies finally attack. The one thing I haven't figured out, is how I would keep my chickens safe and fed after the initial invasion. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Theres always a lot of stuff I wanted to build and never really had the time or motivation too. With a near endless supply of free metal, wood, and tools at my disposal, I could really occupy a lot of time. Do you find this valuable?

This. I have about 40-some odd Palladium RIFTS books and a two pound sack of dice.

Tabletop RPGs require no power, some light, pen and paper. +1

Personally, I like to write. Hell, I'd probably be writing a zombie novel.
Also, I can waste a lot of time just cleaning weapons. I'm the only guy I know that finds that fun.

Finally, wherever I am, I'll probably be poking around for stuff that's useful. Call it "looting" if you will, but it's not looting if they don't want it back.
